sport exhaust for 997

thinking of sticking on a sport exhaust, not really for extra performance but for sound, has any one had one fitted and does it affect your opc warrenty ??

I have the official Porsche one and its great. Not as good as a Tubi but I was told by an OPC and an independent dealer that a Tubi would invalidate the warranty.

I had the PSE fitted to my C4S from new and am very pleased with it. It comes with the chrome tips which look good (and which are a cost extra with the normal exhaust) and is switcheable so that you can go back into 'stealth' mode as and when required - useful to avoid waking up neighbours late at night or early in the morning !! Having said that even in 'normal' mode, the car is hardly quiet!!

I think the cost to have this retrofitted is significantly more than the new price (circa £1,800 versus £1,160), presumably because you get to keep the original exhaust? I've also heard that there is a 3-month waiting list for a PSE retro-fit......

I think the Porsche 'Powerkit' costs £8k on a new C2S (povides an extra 26bhp), and includes the PSE..........

all depends when that 26bhp is delivred whether its noticed or value for money, still £8k seems expensive £307 per bhp, anyway my car is rapid enough and i will never track it, its the more aggresive sound i would like, i will have to hear one first

I would be surprised if an after market exhaust voided the warranty on the whole car. Yes if something fails connected to the exhaust system then you are on your own but the whole car? Sounds like OPC twaddle to me.

Presumably as the exhaust is connected to the engine, then the OPC could argue that any engine related problems were due to the exhaust and hence not covered, which could turn out v. expensive!!

I'm not sure its a LIKELY scenario, but it is certainly a risk that some people wouldn't consider worth taking, me included.

Basically it has to be PROVEN that new pipe has damaged car - not likely with Tubi et al as these pipes are not just "comparable" with stock parts, but superior.
According to this I could even get a Porsche Carrera GT serviced at local kwik-fit using "comparable" parts and provided I used the Porsche service schedule, there's not a damn thing the prats in Reading could say if I blew it up.

Asked the exact same question to the after-sales manager at Reading OPC a couple of weeks ago.

Basically, if your engine goes pop they have to prove that the mod you made to the motor was a directly contributory factor to the fault. The mere presence of an exhaust, air fliter (or whatever) does not invalidate the warranty.

useful info on BE, opc tell me tubi will be too loud for MOT, still 2.5 yrs away, thats why they have switchable system ?how much will a Tubi cost ?

Too loud for an MoT? Highly unlikely! Maybe in Germany where there are regulations governing noise output.

That car on the Tubi website is mine. I love the sound of it and actually prefer it to the PSE option.

As for invalidating the warranty that is rubbish. It simply invalidates any claim you make on an exhaust related part and does not affect the rest of the car at all.
