Arrghhh I'm on fire... or so I thought!!

Pulled in to my parents the other day after a long run out in the Griff with my brother. Car was very hot, lots of heat coming from the bonnet. My brother points at his footwell and says:

"They're a light there." I look down to see a wavery light in the footwell.

My first thought was Fire!!!

"Get out, quick, get out!" I shout, and jump out of the car going for the fire extinguisher (which I need a new one of as my one had expired).

I grab the extinguisher, dive into the footwell and feel for heat. Strangely there is none. I pull the cover away and no somke. So cautiously I poke my head down into the footwell.

What do I find?? A ing courtsey light!! 1 year of ownership and I never I knew I had one. I also found an airvent and a corrugated tube that had come unplugged. There was also a strange plastic elbow on the batter.

God I felt foolish.

I've owned my Mitsubishi FTO for over 18 months and only found this week a button inside that locks all the doors when you are driving in a dodgey area.

Be very careful with this. It's really easy for a passenger to knock it into the "always on" position with their knee or perhaps whilst groping round for the air-vent that's also under there. Because the courtesy lights are on a 20 second delay timer when you shut the doors you won't realise it's permanently on until you discover a flat battery a fed days later!
