Tickover problem

All,

My tickover is too low.

I've done the usual - cleaned the stepper motor.

The tickover screw seems to have either no or very little effect - it's not like it's just turning - it goes from full down to full up - you feel it stop.

Could the tickover air bypass be blocked.

Any other suggestions.

How much difference does the tickover screw make on yours ?

You need to set the base idle first Rev, with the hotwire whatever you do with the idle screew the steeper trys to cancel it out and sets the tickover.

clamp off rubber hose to steeper motor, set tickover to 500 rpm with idle screew, turn off engine, reset ecu ( disconnect leave 30 seconds then reconnect ) take off clamp and steeper motor should reset your tickover. I think this is how you do it, it is in the V8 disco haynes manual. And its how the big man in Sheffield told me how to do it.

If this is not correct someone will be along in a min and put me right.

This may not cure the problem but at least you will know your base idle is within the steeper motors range as it can only adjust to 126 settings and if your idle screew is too far in or out the steeper motor reaches it limit b4 the tickover is correct.

Used to like them but if you use the car a lot - injection is much more frugal.
