Universal e-mail access service???
Discussion
I reckon you IT experts out in PH land will know this.
Last time my main e-mail account threw a wobbler and wouldn't let me log on - again - I found a service that enabled you to access any of your e-mail accounts so that you could read messages without actually downloading them.
Thought I'd made a note of it but can't find it.
Anyway, my sodding e-mail account is throwing another wobbler, so can anyone point me in the direction of a service as above I can use to access my messages until my account starts behaving again.
Thanks

Hi Jamie,
Reckon it's definitely my account because I've only got a problem with the one company. E-mail account I have with another company is working fine. Also, it's done this a few times before. Suddenly refuses to work for a few days then just as suddenly starts again. The wonders of technology eh?

Isn't it www.mail2web.com or some other variation on webmail?

But if the account it buggered, then you wont be able to access it from anywhere..
The only way in which you might if it's not the account, but the method used to collect
ie your POP3 is broke, but IMAP, or Webmail still works..
What have your host said?
Hi Jamie,
Thanks for the input.
Haven't bothered contacting my host yet as all I seem to get from them whenever this happens is 'check your settings'. Well I haven't changed my bloody settings from when it was working so I can't see that being the problem.
Anyway, have now managed to locate that service I was trying to find at www.web2mail.com and managed to access my messages via that, so seems that account is working OK but the bastard won't let me connect direct. Hopefully it'll sort itself out in a few days like it did last time.

Weird, if that works, then either it IS a problem with your local connection, Or, you're trying to connect to pop3 and it's connecting via IMAP for example.
either way, i'd be looking into findout out a little more on the issue.
try this
Goto a Dos Prompt (Start, run, cmd )
telnet yourmailserver.com 110
where yourmailserver is the name of your incoming mail server (Pop3)
If it's up and working, you should see a nice welcome message.

Further to Jamie's selection, if the "telnet" command works you can then follow this up by typing:
user yourusername [enter]
pass yourpassword [enter]
You should then see a response "OK Mailbox locked", or similar. This shows on a basic level that your account is working.
It's possible that if you are still having problems even though all the above works, that a message in your mailbox is causing you a problem. If this is the case, I've seen this sort of thing caused on many occasions by poorly written desktop email AV scanners which can't handle particular message formats. Try disabling your scanner (be it Norton or McAffee or whatever) and then connect to your account.

Bugger, I thought "Wow, I know the answer" as soon as I saw the heading, but I see you beat me to it, never mind,
