After returning from my trip to Germany I am getting deeper in the UPS and DOWNS of Cerby ownership...as for the ups

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=264005&f=6&h=0

But a newly discovered rattle (which I blamend on the exhaust as it sounded very similar to the exhaust rattle I had before when I lost a exhaust rubber) turned out to be a sheared off anti roll bar (Passenger rear wheel- it came off the chassis)--anybody encountered something similar??? (luckily Fernhurst will sort it under warranty- do you think the anti roll bar upgrade

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=263389&f=6&h=0

could help preventing this in the future??? As the car will be in the garage I can also not come to the cerbs in the city - sorry to budaholic.....

Furthermore I poured about 3,5 litres of oil in for a 2000 mile trip (but drove bloody hard an the Autobahns)--oil pressure never goes below thirty, temp is fine- so is this normal usage (there seems to be also some engine oil @ the right side of the plasik cover below the right air inlet manifold????)

And as a welcome back present someone overtook a truck parked on his side of the road whilst I was approaching from the opposite--- he should have stopped to let me pass as I was already next to the truck (green Rover 75 - as Clarkson says it is called 75 because of the average age of the driver- this one was older) so I had to move out of the way and kerbed my frontwheel...... any good place for whhel refurbs in the south will be appreciated (if this is worth doing- or is it cheaper/better value for mony to get a new wheel- 18 inch SPYDER)???

Still great fun- will miss the car whilst in the garage........

While some cars do seem to eat bit of oil, I would have said that was quite a lot. On my trip to Le Mans and back, I only had to put in half a litre once I got home. What sort of mileage has yours done?

Not heard of anyone breaking an ARB link, but I'm quite taken with the Steve Heath upgrades. If you have to have it done anyway...

The Car has done 32000 Miles in total and 2000 since I have it (and it was serviced @ Fernhurst)---no obvious leaks or Oil und the Car (According to my other car -71 TR 6- there can be no oil in it if it isn't leaking.....

It does sound heavy usage. My car was using about a litre every 500 miles before the rebuild. (now it uses none )

I'd have a word with Bryan at Fernies - I am sure they'll advise. I bought mine from them too and have had nothing but impeccable service...

What does the pressure go down to?

I would worry if mine ever went below 50psi, which it didnt.

The rear link on mine also broke mainly due to the rose joint seizing on its bar, So Mr Heaths links which look quite a bit sturdeir than the originals would help.

Also the oil on RHS of the engine bay is probably from the breather pipe on the underside of the airbox, try a hose clip or ty-wrap to clamp it to the pipe more securely as theres nothing as std

Your autobahn smoking issues, low oil pressure, oil useage etc would suggest you need to force the warranty issue so as to get engine looked at. If you want a 2nd view on it then get it over to APM.

Thanks everybody - I love this forum, you always get really good advice...
Yes Brian there seem to be oil on the lower end of the breather pipe (it is wet there to the touch) so I will discuss this with fernies anyway...as well as I am going to discuss the engine oil consumption- I had as most of you no problems with them whatsoever and they were always very helpful. Should the think my engine is OK I will give GAZZABS ideas another thought and have it rechecked- just to be better save then sorry- and I will also discuss the Anti Roll Bar upgrades with them....
Thanks again all of you- and have a great weekened in the city (My heart will go with you!) But I will be at one of those meeting once...
My Oilpressure is over 60 PSI all the time apart from warm idle when it sometimes goes down to 30

To be honest, it does sound like your engine is a little on the tired side, 30psi on warm idle and that sort of oil consumption points towards a fair amount of internal wear, if my old egine is any sort of guide.

The problem is often caused by the use of rubber bushes which do not provide the right articulation. On the Griffs and Chimaeras, ARB drop link breakage was very common with the common failure of ripping the mounting plate of the wishbone as the bolt/bush try to move in a way they are not capable off. On the later Cerbs, the bottom rear rose joint is a bit of an improvment but the rubber bush at the top is still a bit of a problem in that it limits the movement.
