All,

Just been to see the Bobbies. Nice video.

They say 85 in a 60 is beyond the limit for a 3 points plus 60 fine.

Any ideas what the likely points / fine will be.

If Plod was following the Guidelines published by ACPO then 85 in a 60 limit should attract a Conditional Offer - pay £60 and collect 3 points.

1 mph over that and a summons for Court appearance seems to be the Order of the day.

However this is not carved in stone and they have the option of summons straight to Court should they so wish, (even just over 60mph) and circs are above the out and out and speed offence.

At Court the max fine is £1000, 3 -6 points and discretionary disqualification if totting not involved.

The starting point for sentencing will be 4-5 points or a short disqualification of upto 42 days and a level B fine (ie 1 weeks disposable wages). From there they may take into account aggravating and mitigating circumstances of both the driver and the situation. 85 in a 60 is bang in the middle of that range, so hard to say which way they might jump.

A guilty plea as early as possible will earn you a discount of a third (on fines, not points), should you decide that you do not wish to contest it.

My 89 in a 60 attracted 5 points and a £250 fine. The thing went to court but I didn't attend. That was 3 years ago. I'm surprised that you didn't get a conditional 3 points and £60 for 85 in a 60. That's what I'd expect.
