928 S4 starting issues
Discussion
I had a similar thing happen to my 928 in the winter some years ago. Sometimes the starter wouldn't engage properly and make a continual cyyclic clicking noise. Other times it would make a weird noise like someone with flegm in their throat!
Eventually it got worse until it didn't start. I had a poke around the clutch housing and found some pieces had broken off the starter motor.
The armature was no longer pulling over to engage.
I soon changed the starter motor.
On the 928, you'll be able to tell because the starter motor is very near the cabin just underneath the engine, near the LH drivers seat.
Alternatively could could crawl under the car and have someone else try to start the car and hear if strange noises come from the starter motor....
