Hi everyone, looks like this is the lucky forum i eventually decided to put my first post in!

I've just passed my test (25th april) and just purchased my first bike (27th april ) - an 03 sv650s. It was standard when I bought it, I've since put on the lower fairing (sorry couldn't live without that look, vain i know!) and a seat cowl. It's in that lovely blue colour too!

I'm off with a few biker guys i know (who got me into bikes in the first place) to the ring in june, so I will be/have been using it regularly, commuting from tooting to canary wharf! (I'm undecided if I'm actually going on the track or not at the minute, it depends on the traffic at the time).

There's also a point to this post, aside from introducing myself - the guy who had the bike before me had an off on it - it's all checked out and is ok, but (and we just noticed this when putting the lower fairing on) the radiator is actually wayyyy out of position (though not leaking).

I could technically live with it as it is, but I'm a bit pedantic and want to get it in the right position (fairing bolts on to it, but we've worked round that). The current radiator is *not* going to go back into position, so how much am I looking at for a new 650s radiator (K3)? I've heard they're a bit pricey (in general, on bikes)...

If they are expensive (btw - can't find any pattern part type places that do them, so I assume dealer-only), does anyone have an sv they're breaking, or knows of where to find one (annoyingly missed one on ebay a few weeks ago where it might have had it intact )

cheers!

Thanks...I did take a look there before, (haven't registered yet) but they had nothing in the for sale section

Oh, and I need a tail tidy as well as a radiator

Then why not register and ask the question? There are a lot of experienced bikers over there as well as a few traders who may just have the parts or know someone who does

Evening, hope you enjoy the PH Bikes forum.

I took my GSXR-1000 in for a service today - the dealer gave me an SV650 to use for the day. I have to say, my initial impressions were not good as the SV was so different to the GSXR (as you'd expect as they're very different bikes). It felt so under powered in comparison and heavy...

However, by the end of the day, I ended up thinking the SV was a great bike - in traffic and slow speed corners it was real easy to handle and get on with... Also, when you open the throttle, you don't feel like you're going to enter hyperspace as you do on the GSXR - it really is very useable. If I could afford two bikes, I'd have one! Really changed my mind from my initial thoughts - it was great to have the throttle wound open and really feel like you're using the bike. If you open the throttle on the GSXR 1000, you give up before it does - 140, 150 etc, the speed just keeps piling on

i'll take a look at the radiator mountings on the chassis tomorrow, not sure where it bolts on as the only mounting we looked at was the one at the bottom. I'll probably register and ask on sv650.org too, but does anyone here have any idea of the price of a radiator? It'd be fitted by myself, so no fitting costs.

p.s. shot2bits glad to hear you liked the sv even after the gsxr, though i have to say the sv does actually feel slow over 80ish. I'd never been on a bike before i started my DAS, and I think if i hadn't had the (mis?)fortune to go to see this bike on the back of an 04 zx-10r (complete with nutter rider) I'd probably have been more amazed by it! Now though, i want it to be faster, haha - i should be careful, i'll probably kill myself with thoughts like that!

wow, you needed to upgrade quickly then huh

have you tried an sv650 at all? i wondered how the 1000 compares, as i hear the 650 talked about all the time, but not the 1000...

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi, yes I found the GS500 to be perfectly sensible and a good bike but a little uninspiring, it was so like the ER5 I learnt (which was why I bought it). I went to buy a 650 Bandit, but talking to the sales people, the nature of the v twin SV just sounded more fun. So I decided on the SV, but I wondered if the 650 was a bit close to the 500 and if so I'd have changed again quickly. And, there was this really nice looking 1000 there so I took the plunge and realy enjoy it. I've not ridden a 650 but I do know people ith them that really enjoy them. Whatever you choose, good luck (oh, and I guess it may be worth checking out insurance too). Dave

I've already bought the 650...

I don't know how much more then 1000 would be, but if it's anything like 1000cc superbikes i'll be eating beans to pay for it! i was quoted some silly prices even on 600cc supersports...hence the sv.

Thanks, I will do (consequences not good if I don't!). I think it's time for me to try and participate in some other threads now, haha

I think I'll have to try an sv1000s sometime, to see the difference. Maybe after a few months of the 650 I'll pop to the dealers and blag a test ride!
