One of the reasons for getting a Sigma 10-20 was so I could further torment the hound... He gets his revenge by slobbering all over the camera and lens. Anyone who says you shouldn't put a UV filter on a lens either hasn't got a dog, or doesn't shove the camera in it's face all the time!

no apologies for yet another doggy thread!

First shot is very cool.

Ben, would appreciate your opinion on the following: in a situation where money is not very abundant but a few pennies could feasibly be diverted from other places, in your quick nutshell judgement, is the D200 a worthy upgrade from the D70?

That's a tough one. In purely objective terms I'd struggle to say that I think it's worth the money. The D70 is good enough in 99% of the situations I would ever find myself in. Subjectively, having had both the D200 really does feel like a big step up, but one I didn't need, rather it was one I wanted.

One of my primary reasons for wanting an upgrade was that I always felt the images I got out of my D70 with the kit lens were soft - this would no doubt have been solved by simply buying better glass, but if you're going to spend a grand you might as well spend two...

When I got my D70 money was tight, and £800 was a lot to spend - but I never for a fraction of a second felt any buyers remorse. This time round with the D200 money is a bit less of an issue, so I spent 3 times as much... and still buyer's remorse hasn't been an issue.

You wont be sorry if you get it, but I wouldn't get into debt to do so if it were me! If I had the choice between buying the D200, and buying the 28-70f/2.8 (which I got at the same time), I'd get the lens , simply because it's f**king awesome.
