TVR Malaysia

Well I aint posted for ages but just thought I would mention that TVR had a rumored factory in Malaysia that built parts for chims in the 90,s any body heard any more are they still active cheers Jason

There was certainly a factory in malaysia, we went over there in 2001 and saw them win the 12h race at sepang in a chimaera... I believe the factory closed a couple of years ago.

I'm sure they are closed, but Autocar, Malaysia still lists the Chimaera in the new car section...

I bought the last of their Chim challenge racing car bits last year from the new owners,they are definitely not producing cars any longer.

All I could dig up at the mo.
This was at its first days testing in NZ after a complete rebuild and with the LS1 installed,mine was being built fairly identically untill I had a complete u turn with the body shape...




Main differences were.

JE 5.1 RV8,standard ecu
Glebe t5 straightcut gearbox
12&1/2"front rotors& 4pot AP's
11"rear rotors& 2pot AP's
tubular rose jointed wishbones,with modified bottom chassis mounts(verticle)
Penski 2way shocks
Centre spline hubs ,(modified from original and didn't work!)
16x8&17x9 wheels
Lighter body,(slightly)
clip on front splitter
Rear wing.
Hard top
Rear diffuser
Roll cage (obviously)

In 1997 i went to the factory at Port Klang in Malaysia to help implement production builds and quality procedures as i am aware it is still there and producing cars for their home market. The factory was then run by Yung Lee who spent nearly 12 months at the bristol avenue factory before production started in Malaysia. Initially a bare body and chassis and internal body pannels were sent to the facotry in Blackpool for production to help bolster the numbers of cars produced as we were peaking at nearly 39 units a week. As our own body shop couldn't keep up with the numbers.

The factory kept records of the malaysian bodys and chassis used on uk cars,but to look at you could not tell the difference.
