This morning. Compact, rather well-balanced design. A very nice-looking car - at least it looks as good as the coupé IMO.

One of the well known dealers have a couple advertised in The Sunday Times today.

One with full spec is up for £175K which is mad money. I would rather pay a premium on an F430 Spider and still have £25K in change.

Davey, dealers will charge what they think they can get away with but I agree £175K is steep (could even be a misprint). You could get a Murci for that and have change, never mind a 430.

And if you're into saving money, yes, get the Fezza. Chicks dig a man who who's carefull with his cash (not!).

It's a sweet car, the G Spyder, but totally different to the Ferrari. Chalk and cheese. Both excellent cars.

Thanks, Thom, for posting the pics.

If the spider depreciates as quickly as the coupé there is little sense forking out for a new one anyway.

the red car in the background is pretty rare too - venturi atlantique. almost a spitting image of a ferrari 348 without the slats. im 90% sure the venturi came out first. i almost bought one once but no insurance company i tried had ever heard of it!

Unlikely to be a misprint, a full spec Spyder is circa 155k

I think that was either an "MVS Venturi" (1984 -> 1988) or a "Venturi Coupé" (1988 -> 1995).
The more modern-looking, curvaceous car labeled "Venturi Atlantique 300" came out in 1995.

Well, there's little sense in buying a car like this full stop. Happily some people still do - bless their hearts.

isnt that just too much money for a car like this? seems to me to be a very limited market for cars much north of 100k. only those to whom money is no object can get involved. i wouldnt mind a gallardo but the resale horror stories have put me off completely...maybe im just not rich enough

thom is right re the venturi...

Is that the same limited market (over 100k) with a 3 year wait list for a 430 or 599 (or for that matter a DB9, GT convertable) etc etc?

It may well all end in tears in a few years, but at the moment there are a lot of people earning a lot of money and demand for these cars far outstrips supply

then there is no point in buying any expensive car new if you apply your theory. Then there would be none on the 2nd hand market etc etc

Sorry, that doesnt make sense to me, Expensive cars have been depreciating for years and years, take a look at Modern V12 Ferrari's, this is no exception.

Well, buying such cars in the first place indeed makes little financial sense to me.
However, it would be undecently senseless to buy one new in the safe knowledge they would lose ~25% value within 6 months instead of waiting 6 months for getting a second hand one that certainly won't feel far different from a new one (it's not like they were everyday beaters) thus simply saving quite a lot of money. There is also hope a second hand car would have been (hopefully properly) run in and have the usual new car issues sorted.
Being sure it has not been badly run in and/or badly treated is to me a good reason to buy one new, although certainly the only one, but I hardly imagine people spending as much in such a great piece of car treating it like the occasional loan car.
Am I too confident in thinking such a car feels as good at say 5k miles as when new ?
Is it not quite in the interest of those who buy those cars new to reckon the opposite ...
In the end people who are happy to buy new also need people who are happy to buy second hand. So, each to their own.

If you want a Red Ferrari Spider with cream seats then buying second hand is fine,
but for me one of the main reasons to buy new is that you can actually get the spec you want

For example I would like a 430 coupe black/black/red brakes/red stitching - I challenge you to find me one on the secondary market

I'm sure I will theoretically lose a fortune on my Gallardo Spyder, but as I'm looking to keep it for the long-term and drive it everyday, it's more important for me to get the spec I want and know the history (my second-hand 360spider had endless oil pressure problems which I'm certain were the fault of the previous owner)

Why do you think that Gallardo Spyder is going to dump the money?

I think not, only 70 units per year & have you seen one in the flesh?

Think you'll find that they do pretty well & anyway Gallardo Coupe residuals aren't that bad excluding F430. They have certainly firmed up over the last 6 months & noting the rave reviews by the press for the spyder ....fingers crossed!!

I know what you mean. I always wondered who'd shell out £330K for an SLR but it's all relative and subjective, isn't it? Though, oddly, I think the Veyron's a bargain! Crazy, I know.

No, no. I didn't mean to imply anything other than to have a little jab at being a "tight wad". Nothing offensive implied, just a joke, honestly.
