Hey folks,
Thought I'd try to make my first post useful.. ahem....

Just come through Le Mans (I do motorcycle tours) last week and the place is in uproar. The main road N138 going north into town off the top of the Mulsanne straight is being severely dug up. I'm talking MAJOR resurfacing going on and three to four foot deep holes everywhere. There's more cones than the M25 and contra-contra flows, if you catch my drift. I'd be amazed if they get it all sorted come race day. Expect delays crossing town

Just to let you know, so if your planning on entering the town from the north end and you have a super-low-slung-ground-scraping-bad-ass super car then go easy. You could lose spoilers in some of those holes! Better still try and skirt the town if you're heading for one of the southern based campsites by going west of the aerodrome.

One more thing - gendarmes are on alert. Watch your speed on the approach to towns en-route, even if you take some of the err.. shall we say more 'charming' routes where you wouldn't always expect a moustachio'd gun-toting bike cop.

Cheers all, Anyone in Blue Nord give me a shout.....

Weren't they doing that work last year? Seem to recall it caught me out! Long delays! They must be used UK roadworkers to take that long!

We visited Le Mans in February to check our Hotels, only to discover complete chaos in Le Mans centre. The roads are an absolute nightmare - ruts and lumps of tarmac everywhere. If you have a low car - please avoid it - we ground out a couple of times, and had to proceed with extreme caution (annoying the locals ).

They are installing a new Tramway, which will not be finished until 2007 - and no, it is not in just one part of town - they are doing the lot at once!

To see the works progress, please see here www.ville-lemans.fr/, and type in 'Le Tram'.

By the way, try not to drive straight into the Place de la Republique - it now takes you straight into the underground car park if you aren't awake! (Luckily we were!)

Ah-ha! A Tramway... that explains *everything*

Knew there had to be a reason for the volume of works. Nice one BM. Even more reason to avoid ther ruts and holes..

yes, thanks for the heads-up. Although this year its easier to avoid: if you're taking thenew road south (not on the N138), then keep on it past le Mans, travelling to the east of the City. Then head south, and come off at the circuit.

Then simply head north to Carrefeur, or sougth on the NMulsanne straight to the...er...Auchan??
