I'm about to replace the rear shocks and springs along with the new tie rods I just brought, but looking at the state of the tie rod bushes I have decided to re-bush the A frames at the same time. They are 18 years old now and it gives me chance to get everything powder coated to match the front that I have just finished after virtually 12 months!

My question is how is the adjustable bush assembled? In the bible there is an exploded view but looking at it in the flesh its difficult to see how it all fits together. It would be nice to know, before I start taking it all apart, exactly what I can expect. Some of you handy with the spanners have probably tackled this job before so any help, tips, info etc would be much appreciated.

Although I've taken wishbones off, I've never dismantled the adjuster - it sets the rear toe. It looks straightforward based on the exploded diagram though. The threaded rod welded to the bush housing which attaches to the diff carrier is drawn through the wishbone bush and locked in place by a nut either side of the wishbone bush housing. I think removing both nuts will allow the threaded rod to be removed.

Just back off the big hex nut, there should be two flats on the threaded insert and if your're lucky you'll be be able to turn this insert to set the toe, what more likely is this threaded section will be rusted solid.

Thanks for the replies Matt/7,

Matt, so I take it that the bush has a threaded rod that screws into a threaded insert that inturn screws into the A frame and is held in place with the large hex nut and a nylok on the end of the threaded rod?

Not being able to remove the bits due to corrosion is a bit of worry but I will give it a try.
