Anyone know how to rip an entire cd to a single mp3 file? I have some mix cd's that i think would be better ripped to a single file to prevent pauses between tracks on playback but my current software (cdex) doesn't seem to do this...

Not sure if there is an easy way, but if I was doing it I'd use either SoundForge with the MP3 plugin or Adobe Audition that I use for audio editing and just copy and paste each track into a new track one after the other, with this you can also cut out any unnecessary silences at the begining and end of tracks.

Are you able to borrow either?

Alternatively, you could rip the CD to the Ogg Vorbis format in single tracks.
*.ogg allows gapless playback, which mp3 technically can't.

Yeah, I could probably do that....cheers!

I've mainly seen it done on mp3's that I have borrowed myself but have no idea of the software used

Edit: Actually I've just realised i have access to a copy of cool edit - I should be able to do it in that!

Unfortunately my mp3 player doesn't support ogg.... and anyway I'm ripping my whole collection to mp3 to get it into a consistant, universal format even if it not the best space/quality compromise.

As an aside - does anyone know what the hell MPC format is?

MPC is MusePack encoding - download the codec here www.free-codecs.com/download/RadLight_MPC_DirectShow_Filter.htm

Audiograbber can do it too - just set the time of track 1 to the duration of the entire disk....

Ah, nice idea Glen - I might try that using cdex tonight, otherwise I will have a go with some of the other suggestions.

It's a little complicated to get into, but Exact Audio Copy is one of the best ways to rip CDs (not least because it can rip at Variable Bit Rate, giving excellent quality at lowish file sizes) and can do this:

Just tried cdex - managed to get it to work by asking it to rip a partial mp3 of track 1, starting at the beginning of 1 and ending at the finish of the last track. Works a treat, might look into a couple of the other solutions as well (VBR etc)

Cheers guys!
