Hi, i've now been looking for a 02-on turbo for the last few months and can't believe the amount of cars that haven't been serviced as scheduled. eg every 12 months or so many miles. The amount of cars that have gone over 18 months without a service is ridiculous (i know the schedule changed for my04 cars on). Is there anybody out there who services these turbos on time? Do people think that because they haven't used the car that much that it doesn't need a service? Do these people have too much money to care!!! Rant over!

the way i read this was if you did less than (not more than as above) 9k a year you had to get the yearly service done at about £200. Surely people with £100k cars wouldn't grudge paying that or am i missing something here!

If the car has not gone over the mileage I wouldn't care if it was serviced every year or not. That yearly servioce regardless of mileage is just a money making scam and I ignore it on all cars.
Completely agree. Type of use is very relevant to this too.
In the year I bought it I did 10 K of fast road and got it serviced twice. Then I did over 20K miles on motorways in one year and only then felt my 12 K service was needed. After the service the dealer told me it could have taken another 10 K such was the look of the oil, filters, brakes etc - just his opinion of course valid in my mind.
Mine is off warrantee though I have that luxury

I wouldnt buy a car without the correct service schedule...it says more about the owners' of the car than the ability of the car not to blow up/fall apart...i.e buy a car from someone who respects what it is ...
thats the sort of point i was trying to make but judging by the comments above we don't all feel the same about this subject!

I came accross this when I was looking for my car. I asked a couple of OPCs and their opinion was that it depends if the missed / late service was recently or not. If it was recently, then it may be a problem but if it was not recently and the car has had a couple of scheduled services since then, don't worry about it as any problems as a result of the late service should have surfaced by now. They advised me to get an OPC inspection and if it passes, they will still happily put a warranty on the car regardless of the missed service.

My car had a missed service (2 year period) and it went in for the OPC check prior to issue of warranty. No problem.
My old Boxster S did low mileage. Went in for a service (in Germany) one year and the OPC said they would not recommend changing the oil. They checked the break pads, washer fluid and coolant fluid and that was about it. Nothing missed that would damage the car in any way over the long term.
As i said previously it has nothing to do with damaging the car....it just reflects the attitude towards the car from the previous owners thats all..you could probably drive most cars for years and just top them up with oil now and again without any lack of performance or damage....i dont think i would part with my money to buy it however!

Well, I think you should look at it as the 'attitude' from Porsche (not the owner) since it is their advice NOT to touch the car in any great detail if it hasn't been used very much

buyers in this country are totally obsessed with service history, in Germany they only seem worried about recent service work and current condition of the car........we get buyers in our place looking at cars in "scrap corner" at £200 asking if they have fsh and every MOT!!!
Yep, and number of previous owners etc, losing sight that the condition of the car is what really matters.
