I know 8meg broadband with BT is nothing new. But it seems now available on all 4 packages. Before it was only for option 4 , the max use one.

I have broadband with BT but have to contact them to have it upgraded to 8meg (well 5.5meg for my area)

Why don't the exchanges get upgraded so that your own broadband speed get increased automatically?

Why do you have to contact them for it to be done?

Do other providers give reliable stable broadband much above 8meg now?

As BT runs the exchanges why aren't they the ones able to provide the fastest speeds.

I believe BT will upgrade everyone to the "New Minimum" so basicall if you can have 2Mb you get it .. then slidign down to 512k Unless you requested 8Mb then its a bit more variable but between 2Mb and 8Mb depending on line quality.
