Fred...optimax is best

Top Gear or 5th Gear did something on which was best and the Shell one gave better power output

I've seen tests which showed ultimate gave a slightly better increase in HP but the magazine still recommended Optimax as it provided a noticeable difference i.e. better throttle response.

I always try to use optimax in my 360 but Ultimate is a safe bet when Shell Garages are not available.

I think what the tests said was to use fresh petrol i.e. the more recently the tanker has been there the better the fuel, if you're pulling the dregs from the tank its not as good.

I have tried both and like Optimax best and my 3200 doesn't like my local BP garage so we're both happy.

I have tried Ultimate & Tesco 99 but my car (996TT) prefers Optimax, just seems to run better, snoother. Coupled with the fact that Optimax has the cleaning capacity too (that the others dont) and EVO tests from a couple of years back show it really does clean as its used, means its Optimax for me.

I often wonder though, much is said about not buying "stale" petrol, ie use a busy petrol station where there are frequent deliveries because even after a week petrol can start to degrade. But sometimes I fill up with a full tank and then might not use that tank for a couple of weeks if I dont use the car that much, so the pertol in my tank is 1-2 weeks old, so is that "stale" petrol ?
