im thinking of getting myself a canon ixus 55 to take out and about as i dont want to lug my "proper stuff" around with me when im out at bars etc. anyway pixmania are selling this the cheapest plus i can get £10 extra off of it making it extremely good value, however before i take the plunge i would like to know if pixmania is ok to buy from. i normally buy things from camera shops etc when i can see it in my hands so any help would be great thanks

I had a bad experience with them, but due to the non-slagging off policy on PH I will refrain from going into details.

Apparently lots of their kit is non-UK, and even arrive with foreign power adapters.

Only what I've read elsewhere!

They're actually part of DSGI (Dixons) now. Which, given their superb customer service record, is reassuring

I went to order a camera with them recently, all was well and credit card was processed, then received an e mail wanting faxed copy of passport and a letter from where i worked confirming i worked there with a number they could ring.

Did'nt want to go through all that hassle so mailed back and cancelled the order, got it from ebuyer in the end, and it was cheaper. Dont see why i should have to provide loads of extra details especially after they have charged my credit card.

Oh and yes their kit would have been non uk, instructions in french only on this product..

It's now 'at Manager's discretion' - so go in on a wet Tuesday morning at the end of the month if you want to haggle

I know that they're not necessarily the most popular, yes they're a bit foreign and yes you get EU power supplies and instructions in a foreign language too (What's new there then )

But, I have purchased from them in the past, had no problems, fast delivery and got a bargain (at the time) on a Sony T1 for Mrs Beano. It had a two pin plug on the charger and they threw in an adaptor - but you've probably got that laying around somewhere anyway. If you weigh up the pros and cons and are not going to make any special saving I wouldn't bother. But £80 was worth the punt to us.....

(And after all, it's pretty easy to check whether the goods are the same in the EU as UK spec-wise these days what with the Interwebbie an' all.)
