Nice Matt, was this your first group test? What was it like having to direct lots of drivers to position cars?

Do you work freelance and just happen to get a fair bit of work for Car?

It was my first group test... its more difficult but ok... that opening shot with them all moving was a bit tricky... camera rigged up 6 feet off the roof of our volvo looking down... getting all the cars sharp took a few frames i can tell ya, particularly as all 4 cars plus the camera car are moving.

Still freelance but Ive been doing quite well from car recently.

Think you mentioned this shoot last week. As such I had a gander at CAR in WHSmiths.

Didn't take me long to find your pics - you have a distinctive style.

Damn good shots Matt!

Great colour choice with the location and cars, looks like the photos have been spot coloured with yellow Do you get to specify what colour cars you want for the shoot?

I like the look of the Alfa, looks mean as hell

I've come back to these shots a few times now, and - unlike your usual shots - they really don't do a lot for me.

Totally out of your control I would imagine, but BMW supplying a different coloured car appears to have been a bit of an arse. Did you not feel like crashing it just to get back at them?

Outside of that, shot one: I would have liked it if the BM would have been further to its left. The overlap between it and the Lexus looks a little untidy IMO. The overlap untidiness carries over to the 'Verdict' page as well. These, along with the cars being more 'urgh!' than 'wow!' has resulted in a shots which are more Alfa Romeo than Ferrari.

At the end of the day, somebody of my talent level critiquing the shots of a person of your level is pretty preposterous really, so I recommend you take what I've said with a pinch of the old white stuff

Ello andy,

Im still putting my thoughts down re the preparation btw..

its a shame the bm was a dark grey but often these things cant be helped. Re the opening shot, im quite pleased with it... its very difficult to get 5 cars (the camera is mounted on the roof of our volvo) moving at the same speed and all in a very narrow space whilst going around a corner, shooting and driving at the same time and not looking through the view finder... Its a miracle they are all sharp actually.

It can be very difficult to get everything done in a very short time period particularly in london rush hour with no predefined locations. Considering the circumstances and my lack of experience in this area I think we did well.

I can imagine. I have trouble getting static cars 'sharp'

I too think you did well, but - and I hope you take it as a compliment - I think you'll do better with future shoots. Many of your previous photo's have been so I think it may be a case of us being spoilt...

Thanks again.

Not sure what you mean... It was a long way up in the air like a tripod on the roof. Its perfectly stable, just hard to match the speed of the camera car and the subject.
