Automobile Club D'Ouest
Discussion
had a suggestion from a colleague about joining Automobile Club D'Ouest prior to Le Mans -he said that it's cheap and get to use the VIP tent at Le Mans which has its own bars, snack bars and toilets as well as giving a bit of shelter from the heat.

Yes, I've been a member for years.
It used to be cheap, but now is about €90 for the year, and to be honest is only worth it if you are going to be using to buy tickets at a discount.
You can get access to the ACO stand's catering and ablution facilities as we as the old museum building for discounted scoff.
Other benefits are a single callout to a recovery truck within France (which I had to use last year
) and a "results pack" which has a poster, programme and lapchart booklet.

And any savings on tickets must be minimal by the time you've paid the 90 euro yearly fee.
The programmes and race results also take an age to come through the post. And I believe the join fee does not include the break down service as part of the package.
I certainly didn't think it was value for money.

I joined about 8 years ago and think it's a reasonable deal. With Club24 you do get one breakdown recovery so I never bother with European breakdown extension of my UK policy. I also travel through France several other times a year so I'm covered for that as well. You get a discount on entrance and camping tickets for all the major events at the circuit. The ACO Grandstand is free to members at Classic LeMans but you have to pay for the 24hrs.
The Members' area in the village is a godsend, especially on a hot year - not because of any A/C (there is'nt any) but because you can get out of the sun and usually find a table and chairs to watch on the projector TV. Invaluable when trailing young kids/significant others. There are also several small TV's around the place. The food is the same as outside, but cheaper. So is the fizz. The bogs are sanitary and the barstaff clean.
You can take 4 guests into the members' area and they're quite strict about checking your wristbands. Guests who are family members are free so you need to be creative.
IMHO, a reasonable deal.
