Prelude aerial
Discussion
Hi, just bought myself a prelude 2.3i this afternoon. Absolutely LOVE it!!!!
Appart from one very annoying thing....
The aerial is very noisy going up and down!
Can anyone tell me whats up with it, and how and where i can get it fixed.
Is it also possible to disconnect a fuse for it in the mean time?

No idea about the fuse, but I find with most Jap cars I have owned, the elec ariel is nearly always broken.
But the easiest fix is to remove your stereo, and disconnect the blue wire, labelled power antenna, or remote switch etc.
Thats the wire that tells the ariel to go up and down, so with it disconnected, you still get signal, but the ariel stays still

Hi & welcome, lovely car 'ludes imo.
Most electric aerial systems have a flexible plastic core with horizontal grooves cut into it. The grooves mate onto a motorised screw, this is what pulls the aerial up & down. Sometimes these get knocked out of whack & causes the noise. It isn't really a user servicable part though, much more than giving the unit a good whack/tug to see if it helps that is. iirc an OEM electronic unit can be had for around £30.00 from any motor factors.

I only found out about the guts of an aerial 'cause some bleedin' c*%£! decided to rip mine out once.
told you, you need to educate me![]()
is the liner ok sir?
Was a few years back buddy, different car. The 'liner is good, though I had a rather 'exciting' rear blowout in Glastonbury last week, so have just binned another bloody £££ tyre with only a couple of thou' miles on it.

due to a lump in it?
how long was it stood up

Was gurt lump (around 8" long) metal rod oooh-aaarr. Made a hell of a racket as it tryed to re-arrange the arch liner . Managed to stop with out any further mis-haps/damage, & limp home on the space-saver--- which held up lots of camera phone wielding traffic, highly embarrasing
ops:
proper language kiddo,
ow bist the rest of your wagon?
wiring ok now?
Aeriel?
I have just bought a 97 (new shape) no aeriel.
two questions though.
Does it take normal unleaded without too much problems? ($$$$!)
how easy are the brake pads to change? The handbrake light keeps on when cold for a few miles. I assume this means that they are a bit thin and need a changeout.
other than that, great car!!

From memory you can just replace the plastic core... at least I'm pretty sure that's what I did to mine but it was a long time ago.Ive kind of sorted the noise problem for now. At first i cut the blue "Power Antenna" wire connecting the stereo headunit, but now ive re-connected that and disconnected it at the aerial motor (just a little plastic connector thingy). Tried removing the motor unit, but im having trouble un-doing the 'special' nut at the top of the aerial, so i may just pay a garage to do it all for me if it bothers me. Its just im worried that some idiot will rip my aerial off if i forget to push it down.
Yes my lude takes normal unleaded (95ron) fine. I did consider using super unleaded, but thought better of it when the manual says not to and ive never heard anyone recommend it on a prelude.
Im having another problem with the car now... sometimes it has trouble starting. It does one of two things. Either the starter motor will turn but the engine wont kick in... or it will kick in, but cuts out straight away! However, last few times ive gone to start it, its been fine. Ive checked the sparkies, but they look ok. Anyone got any idea what else it might be?

could be two common things with the ludes:
Ignition switch
Main relay
