Chassis Treatment - Got the POR 15, Got the Tectyl....

But i am wondering how well i need to get the old and flaky powder coat off the chassis before i put the POR on...

I am worried no matter how well i apply the POR, if its over powder coat the coat will lift and flake?

One guy in the Chimaera forum used Nitromors to remove the powder coat, which sounds a bit extreme?!

My original plan was abrasives to remove the loose stuff and degreasers then metal ready and finally POR?

Advice from those who have done it please?

Hi just done mine,one hell of a job.Dismantled all of the suspention arms,to get at all the rust.

1st...degrease, but make certain that it does not leave a very thin oily film,not good for the POR 15 to stick to.(sand everything you wont to paint).

2end...scrape of all the lose and flaking powder coating.

3rd...if they are eny rust blisters remove with a hammer.

4th...sand all the good powdercoating to give a good key to the POR 15.

5th...treat all clean shiny metel with POR Metel Ready (etche's into the metel to give a good key),then rince of with water and leave to dry.

Remember UV light will break it down but its ok for under the chassie.and were gloves it does't come off.

Good luck.The longer it takes the better job you do.

Thanks for that, expecting it to be horrible!! You didnt take off all the previous powdercoat then, which i was worried about given the magnitude of that task!

How much POR 15 did you use? I have bought 1 quart but it doesnt look much...

Think i am going to take an entire week off work to do it!

Hi again.
1 quart on mine did all four corners (suspension off),outer rail and out riggers and chassis at the front and were i could get at it.
It makes the evenings and weekends just so enjoyable?
But its well worth it.
