Wonderful thanks just checking, priced up a Cayman the other day and I'm test driving one Saturday
If it drives as good as it look's then I'll hopefully be going for one as apposed to a Exige S, I'm only interested in a Driver's car so can any one recommend anything I should be looking for

OK OK, I am no mechanic but surely you must know that it is best to change the oil at the very least every year no matter the miles covered in that year. Oh and while i am on my

OK - So I have just gone and grabbed my 997 S Guarantee and maintenance booklet and it says under the maintenance schedule the following: -
Minor Maintenance:
If the Mileage for the scheduled maintenance is not reached, minor maintenance must be performed after 2,6, 10...years at the latest
Major Maintenance:
If the Mileage for scheduled Maintenance is not reached, major maintenance must be performed after 4,8,12 years at the latest.
It goes on to have a table of what gets done in the Minor Service... the mileage for which is as follows: -
20k, 60k, 100k, 140k miles
and the Major...
40k, 80k, 120k, 160k
So unless I do more than 20k miles in the first two years - I will not need a service until May 2008.
It does go onto say that the oil and filter must be changed in countries where leaded fuel is used.
Seems too good to be true - this long-life servicing thing - still the engineers at Weissach aren't daft...

I'm also no Mechanic but understand engines,I just wasn't sure on the service interval detail's, I certainly don't want anymore Issues I wish I'd kept my pervious R it was fabulous

ended up spending £52k got the sports seats which are great and the bose which is good also got the sport design wheels which although are a bugger to clean look the business you may well find like i did that the waiting time will tempt you in to ordering more bits when i ordered my cayman the invoice price was about £47k however kept on seeing things i wanted to add and did so at the end of the day its my first porsche and i just wanted to make sure i didnt regret not purchasing somthing. One thing that i would recomend which isn't that expensive is the sports steering wheel much much better than the standard one.
Oh alright i am an old git and in the old days when oil was well just oil you changed it every year, maybe now that oil is synthetic (whatever that means) you are safe to leave it in the engine for longer, whatever i will continue to change the oil annualy, Oh dear i realy am an old fuddy duddy. 
You think the engineers at porsche are smart well i dont think so too many engine/gearbox failures for my liking. NOW the really smart guys at porsche are the sales outfit 
they will sell you a sub standard car with a smile.

I'm with you, I cover relatively low miles in the 993 (4-5K/yr) but still do a yearly oil change, it's not as if it breaks the bank

Yep I know a couple of guy's who have them but I'm worried about the engine's etc, also I'd struggle to get a car with a decent warranty for 40k wouldn't I ?

If you're worried about the engine going bang, then get the car inspected by Porsche and take out the OPC extended warranty for £750. Well worth it for peace of mind imho as the GT3 engine is NOT cheap to replace.
