996 Traction Control

Okay, probably a silly question...

My understanding was that only the C4 came with traction control, however in an advert for a '98 C2, it states it has traction control.

Was there an option for this? or could the garage have got it wrong?

Twas Indeed an Option.

I had a 98 C2 with Traction Control - Not as advanced as the stuff you get on the 4WD models but works like a gem.

Later On the C2 got better traction control OR Porsche Stability Management I think.

The Stuff I had on my early C2 was great - managed to get some excellent results around a Wet Bedford GT circuit - really good fun exploring what you can do with and without it on.

Its called PSM (Porsche Stability Management) and works on all 4 wheels to help stop hairy moments. Can be a bit intrusive (esp when its wet) but there is an off-button.

Early 996 C2 came with Traction Control. C4 had PSM fitted as standard. Soon after the Traction Control option was discontinued on the C2 and replaced with a PSM option.

PSM on C2 is slightly different to the C4 as (obviously) it can only cut power to the rear wheels (rather than all 4) but does apply braking to whichever of the 4 wheels requires it.

Yep, it's now off when I'm in the mood.

First time it intruded, it was as scary as an accident would have been (although a bit cheaper).

Just about to execute a lovely power slide, suddenly all the anchors are on hard. I thought WTF!!!

Very early 996's traction control was an option. I know as mine hasn't got it!

Its interesting to read some American websites where they are now lauding the early 996 as the996 to own in terms of natural feel and lack of intrusive psm....
