My current leathers are really past it, they were 2nd hand from my next door neighbour in the first place.

So I know very little about the ins and outs of buying leathers.

I'm looking for a 1 peice suit that will give me good protection on the road, be sensible as and when I do a trackday but doesn't cost the earth.

what's the thinking.........

I have found Hein Gericke to be excellent, great quality and really well priced, i have got the HG Racing suit, mine is a two peice but they do have a one peice suit, if i remember it was about £400 ish, come with all the appropriate padding and built in back protector.
Plus when i was looking all two peice suits came as one size and HG could mix and match the trousers and jackets.

Depending on how much you want to spend... Go to Crowtree! Not as expensive as you might think, made to measure and top quality. Can't knock them really, only downside is delivery time if they are busy.

Check out the BMF Show in Peterborough on the 20th/21st May. There will be lots to choose from and some show price bargins.

Best bargains at the BMF will be early on the Saturday If you don't get anything there then Crowtrees really are superb.

I've got Frank Thomas leathers and am very happy with them. The trick here is to buy in the regular FT sales - 50% off lots of stuff. The 1 piece I have for the Ducati retailed at £550 when I bought the bike. 2 years later I bought my set at the NEC show, brand new but last years range - £200 ! Bargain.

Provided you can travel there, as they cancelled their measuring service visit to London last year

Yep, waiting for mine

However, I couldn't find anything to fit 100% off the peg so the wait will be worth it... Plus, they're a real nice bunch of people who really know their stuff.

I've had a 130mph off in mine at Jerez, and the panel over the backside doesn't need replacing, let alone all the stitching being perfectly intact. A big thubms up from me, although, if you go for the 'club racer' spec (more leather in key areas), they are quite heavy.

If I'd been wearing off the peg Dainese or something lightweight like that, the popped seams would have the least of my worries....

HG do good off the peg leathers.

Crowtrees are top quality. I've got Dainese and Wolf stuff - I had a big off in my Wolf 1 piece and it stood up very well.

From the perspective of someone who used to sell bike leathers, you do get what you pay for. I personally wouldn't fancy crashing in FT or HG leathers.

I wouldn't fancy crashing in any leathers to be honest
Interesting points though. I find FT to be acceptable quality for the road, and miles better than the real budget crap I see at many shows. That said, certainly not as good as the likes of Dainese, Crowtree etc., and I keep promising myself a set of those Ducati Corse leathers they did
