Has anyone got a 5 speed G50 box fitted to their car or in construction at the mo and what is the change like, what are the problems with the linkage, as I understand it has to go along under the engine and then back up.
I wish to fit the 5 speed G50/02 lower ratio box, but would prefer the centre gearstick to the right hand fit one.

Do smaller chairs have to be fitted to accomodate gearstick linkage.

Please advise,

Dave

From pics in the build manual it does not look like the shift rods will be a problem in between the seats.
The route the shift takes looks like it could be marginally more difficult but not by much.

Not a problem,

I have a left hand drive and have the G50 box with normal linkage running through the middle.

You don't need anything special, the only problem that we had was that the rear linkage of the gearlinkage was about 10 cm's to short. Also the bracket attaching the rose joint for the linkage to the engine cracked, but the factory have made a stronger unit, which doesn't cause any problems.

Speak to the factory, and they will be able to help you out with the spec of the parts, if you need some photo's than send me or seize an e-mail and will be hapy to send you them.

Good luck and have fun.

I think that there are a few pics in my site showing the gear linkage way. Be careful if you think to install a dry sump system or if you think to fit the alternator at the bottom. As smooth is the line to the gearbox better feeling.

Hi,

I was under the impression that to have central gear shift in the ultima you needed to use the getrag gear box rather than the G50.

Is this the case or will either work just fine?

The 6 speed Getrag box is cable operated anyway, so much easier to route cables, than the stiff bar connection of the 5 speed box.
Dr J. above sent me offlist pictures of his central mount and how the rods go, which is through the middle, if looking from the back of the car, it turns left at the back of the baulkhead, mounts against the gearbox mounting plate to engine, along the back, another support at the back and then up right at the back for the linkage to the rear of the box. Obviously a much longer link than the side mounted gearstick, but apparently still gives a good shift without too much loss of solidness if that is a word!!

Also congrats to Dr J. who is getting married and off on honeymoon.

Dave,

Any chance of forwarding those pics onto me? Would like to see exactly how it's meant to work.

Thanks

DWJP

Got a bit of a problem there, as printed them off and yesterday the missus cleared the e-mail in account.

Dr J is getting married this weekend I think, but he will be sending me more pics of his linkage so to speak by disc to my home when he gets back in a couple of weeks, but I think his mate Sieze who is also a lister, has some pics, so worth posting to him, or find a post with his name on and click his name and it will come up with his e-mail account and a link to contact him direct.

Sorry mate, modern technology eh??

Dave,

Not a Problem! I think I have found some pics of the setup on Craig's build site (Brammo Motorsports) www.brammo.com/ultima/ .

Thanks
