I have some questions re fitting a permanent connection for an Accumate (I've trawled through the Cerbie Forums but cannot seem to find any direct answers to my questions).
Can anybody help?

1) Apart from the Alarm keyfob requiring resetting, are there any other issues with disconnecting the battery to fit my permanent Accumate lead? (Such as ECU issues etc)

2) Is it possible to get to the neg terminal without removing the battery, or would I be better off finding an earthing point? And where is a good earthing point that's preferably close to the pos terminal in order to keep the Accumate lead intact if this is the best option?

Cheers
Bill

Not a direct answer to your question but I use the cigarette lighter adapter for mine. No need to fiddle with the battery to fit it and no need to open the bonnet every time I connect it.

Alarm keyfob may not need resetting, but be prepared to.

I was going to hard wire my Accumate but decided it was just as easy to use the croc clips. Positive to the battery and negative to the airbox bracket on the engine.

Works fine.

Thanks for your responses guys.

I want to be able to hide the lead up under the front somewhere so that I can put it on charge easily without opening the car or bonet - she isn't kept in a garage or covered up. I bought an extension lead so that I can make a waterproof lead that goes from my house (external waterproof outlet switch sort of arrangement) to the front of the Cerb. I've seen a thread where a chap modified his number plate with a permanent connection. It's that sort of think I want to do but I don't want it visible - i.e. the cable with waterproof boot just up and underneath the Cerb securely fitted. Then when I get home every evening (most of the week I only do very short journey's), I'll just connect it up to my extension lead from my waterproof outlet and switch it on. So no real messing about.

I'm the one I think your talking about regarding the charger socket in the front plate. Everywhere I go, I'm asked what is it? Everyone assumes its some sort of radar jammer...

old thread here......

clicky

took some finding too.

I also considered hiding it in the front nose somewhere, but then decided I just wanted it easily accessible.
I've never needed to re-sync my remotes when the battery is disconnected, and the negative to the socket is screwed directly to the chassis.

hope this helps

Ah yeah! Cheers Budaholic (sorry I couldn't remember your nickname)

I'll have a good look at fitting it this comming weekend.
I think I was more concerned about upsetting the ECU if I disconnected the pos terminal.
Guess it's ok if you've already done it and had no adverse effects.

Once again, cheers guys for all your help.

If you use a decent half circle crimp connector you wont have too disconnect the +ve terminal, just loosen it off, slide it in and tighten back up.

Is it me or is there something slightly wrong with that sentence?

It can be difficult to get a good earth off the block, would recommend connecting to the negative terminal to save heartache, removing the battery is fairly simple (well, simple compared with 95% of the other jobs on a Cerb! )

Depends on how good your earthing is from the engine block...getting the battery out may be the lesser of the two evil's of battery out vs good earth!

IMHO of course, and speaking from experience
