Yuji Ide loses his Super Licence
The FIA have rescinded Yuji Ide's Super Licence, the document required to compete in Formula One, the Super Aguri Honda team has confirmed. The Japanese driver will therefore not be participating in any further events this year.
The news means that Franck Montagny will return with the team this weekend at Circuit de Catalunya, his second outing for the squad. The former Renault test driver will also race for the team at the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks later.
Ide made four starts for the team but was never on the pace of team-mate Takuma Sato and made headlines for his rash passing attempt at Imola that saw Christijan Albers sent into a series of barrel rolls in his MF1 Toyota.
A statement from Super Aguri Honda read: "It is with sadness and regret that the team accepts this decision, however Aguri Suzuki and A.Company (Japan) shall continue to seek driving opportunities for Yuji and hopefully a path back into Formula One."
Can't say as I'm suprised - but aren't the FIA being a bit harsh?
I mean look at some of the nutters that Minardi etc. have had in the cars over the last couple of years....
Very harsh I think.
Yes he's made mistakes but I don't think he is significantly worse than some of the other tail-enders over the last ten or fifteen years.
I think it was quite telling if you read the transcript of the Thursday press conference from Germany that when asked about Ide losing his drive Albers, Heidfeld and Klein responded but both Schumachers replied "No comment"....

Not suprised either Ide was around 3secs slower than Sato in all the sessions for all the races they were in together. Montagny was 0.1 and 0.2s slower than Sato on Friday for the last race and quicker than Sato on Saturday, only a problem in qualifying kept him from challenging again Saturday afternoon.
I guess it's to stop them putting him back in just for the Japanese Grand Prix if he's not really up to F1 pace yet.

Did it seem strange to anyone else that SA mentioned they stood Ide down at the FIA's request.
I would have thought they should have kept that bit quiet.
Maybe this is sour grapes.
The decision was made by Bernie, Max, Toady and Sir Frank (or was it Sir Alan (you're a lightweight - you're fired!))

Don't see a problem with this - if you're not good enough/ready you shouldn't be in F1. This is supposed to be the best circuit drivers in the world, not people who can get in by dint of wealth or nationality.
Sure, the system is by no means perfect (Taki Inoue, anyone?) but perhaps it's time an example was set. Ide didn't make the cut, so he's out fair and square.

Totally agree, just because it hasnt happened in the past doesnt mean it shouldnt happen now.

Undoubtably, but have they inccured the wrath of the FIA.

Like Alonso, Webber, Wilson and Fisichella.......ah..........well, sometimes they do get it right
Trulli too.
F1 needs a team like Minardi.
No, Trulli really is a nutter

I was thinking along the lines of the mobile chicanes like Alex Yoong and Zsolt Baumgartner and that old Isrealy guy who totalled the car in testing on his first lap.

I seem to recall that even the "names" have pulled off some seriously dodgy stuff in their time...
Prost and Senna certainly did... seem to recall an incident with Schumacher & Hill... etc etc.
Does seem harsh, but I think the jump to F1 is still quite large...
