just lashed out on a 987 boxster s. gt silver / cocoa. great car, love it. its got a hard top that i cant bear to take it off.............it looks so good with it on!
anyway, loads of stuff with the car about porsche club gb. tried searching on here, but got bored.
bottom line - is the club worth the 60 odd quid joining fee?? i'm not too interested in walking up and down long lines of gleaming old porsches on the grass at some day out.
what else does one get for the lolly??

I own a Boxster and I am a member of the club. I enjoy it.
BUT
I cannot speak for the "monthly meet" type people. I can't be bothered with that: although I DO go to some of the national events. I do as many of the club's Track Days as I can - at which I meet many of the same old faces over and over again - a little "club within a club". I don't get *any* 911 vs Boxster snobbery AT ALL and enjoy those very, very much.
I reckon its worth £60 for the mag - and the contacts and so on you get through that - the cheap insurance etc etc
Go on - join up and come along to a Track Day...I'll be the bloke with the determined expression in the Guard's Red Boxster S.
Membership virtually pays for itself if you do just one of the PCGB organised trackdays. It's approximately a £50 discount for members vs non-members at those events.
Discounts for tyres/wheels/etc with a few garages, monthly magazine with a decent classifieds sections, etc. Depending on your region, you also get invited/notified about specific events being organised intra-region. Also get access to discounted tickets at various events if PCGB have an arrangement with the organisers. eg: FIA GT at Silverstone this past weekend was just £20 for 2 people over both days including infield parking. Regular cost was £70 for weekend passes for 2 people, excluding infield parking. £50 saving = result, plus bonus of safe parking infield.
Worth it imho!

Apart from the mag, a lot of these special offers are communicated/posted in the Members Only section of the PCGB forum. This is often due to the copy deadlines before going to print when some special offers won't be known at the time. So keep an eye out...
There is 10% off some insurers who advertise in the back of Porsche Post as well... saving 60 GBP is pretty easy if you're going through those channels.
Oh, yes, and as someone has pointed out, you get a glossy mag every month. Worth a quid or two in itself if you like glossy mags with Porsches in.

I spent 2 yrs looking for my perfect porker before I bought it, but not everyone is so fanatically focussed on particulars. I used PCGB as a sounding board and place of learning. What you get for 60 odd quid - a network of experienced fellow owners and experts who might know your potential 'buy' and it's history - which is everything when buying Zuffenhausen's finest. But as 987 owner you'll wont benefit from this, given the newness of your car, but you'll get the promos on track days and access to an otherwise semi-closed market to sell your 987 when you buy then next most fashionable car on the market for 40 K or so. You could be a founding member of the 'new guard'; although boxsters have been around for 10 yrs now.. but do agree with previous comments.. lots of coffin dodgers in the Club, but all share a passion for the porscher.

Absolutely tons of stuff going on in the Yorkshire forum, recently had a good night out at the cinema, 74 cars (TVR, Porshe, Ferrari, Lambo, Aston...) in return for free tickets and secure parking.
THe Yorkshire area of the PCGB forum doesn't have much movement and the monthly gatherings are an aquired taste, been to three or four now and it takes time.
Come along to Harewood house on the 4th June, should be a couple of hundred cars for the annual Porsche concours - as long as it doesn't rain, should be a good day out.

I would guess a high percentage on here are PCGB members...
I would say they fall generally into 3 camps... the trackday lot, the concours/polishers and the social meeters/WOTY's. There is a fair degree of crossing of these general boundaries.
The PCGB Le Mans trip is a bit dearer than just camping with the crowds but the facilities are superb if you want a crap without a queue and fancy hot water in your shower, guarded parking and decent grub laid on.
The mag is good value and contrary to popular belief the 10% at OPC's still exists. Guildford OPC hadn't even heard of the so-called abandonment of the discount.
