Do brake pads and discs need to be done by OPC for warranty

No way! Pads and discs are consumables, just like tyres. Provided you use the right one's i.e size and shape there should be no problems whatsoever. I think I'm correct in saying that discs and pads are not covered by the warranty anyway, so if you use crap pads/discs then you wouldn't be able to claim in any event for any damage that might consequently occur(not that this would be likely to happen)

My understanding is that discs and pads are NOT covered by the warranty. So I don't see how getting them replaced by a good independent should be a problem.

I recently had the full monty done at Northway Porsche - as they were cheaper and more convenient than my OPC. To be honest - they may well get my servicing work in the future too.

Only have the actual warranty work done by an OPC, Specialists do everything else.

As long as you use Porsche parts, and schedules, the warranty stands.

chances are discs dont need doing if the opc centre told you they do.

check them for cracks eminating from the drill holes.

If the cracks are approaching 5mm or so, its worth changing them

you can go down independant route for that. But i read it s best to get servicing done by opc if taking the warranty option as is said some where that porsche would be more likely to fix it if something unsual would go wrong with car. Can not remeber exact phrase through

Ahem.... Having just renewed my warranty they do have quite a few sensible, (ok - weasel) words in the conditions that says in effect that for the warranty to be provided you must maintain the vehicle to the proper standards, including consumables and other items not covered by the warranty.

However, the FSA step in (as it is an insurance policy) to say that should a claim be made, the insurer cannot refuse a claim unless it can be demonstrated that the lack of maintainance of a particular consumable contributed to the failure.

Servicing is another issue. Reading OPC told me that the insurer will not be happy with non OPC servicing and therefore to avoid putting up hurdles for the sake of a few quid I get my car serviced at OPC and they do any cheap items that are found or I report.

Any non-covered items will be done by an Indie - having said that nothing has been needed in the 18 months I've had the car as I do brakes, discs, brake and trans fluid myself.

My servicing is done at an Indie, and I've called the warranty into place three times without hassle.
