Steering Tie Rod End Boot Replacement - Howto?

I've just ordered a pair of new disc shaped boots for the steering rod tie ends (where things go right angled on the upright) and was wondering if it's an easy job to get the joint apart?

I remember having to bash some of my old cars equivalents on the side with an engineers hammer to get the taper to pop out... is this the case with the Ult?

Have you considered cutting the boot so you can wrap it round the joint and then superglueing together again?

If they won't tap out with a hide or copper hammer then use a ball joint splitter. The hinged type is best rather than the wedge type.

Pete,superglue is a widely recognised 'tool' within the automotive industry and is more than just a temporary fix and it will work but I have to agree with you and would myself prefer to split the joint and install the un-doctered boot in one piece.I was just putting forward an alternative idea/solution is all.
