trickle chargers

Had my 993 in the garage for 2 weeks now – so time to worry about those little extras I can treat her too and general to do list…

My driving profile will be predominately weekend and good weather only so certainly in winter periods could well be several weeks between drives.

Have 2 questions I would be grateful for feedback on:

Considering buying a trickle charger to avoid any flat battery issues. Is there any downside to doing this? Any suggestions of good/best charger to target and sources?

How long can u typically leave a 993 without risking a flat battery/non starter?

one came with my gt3 that'll i'll never use if youd like to buy it off me for a few bags of crisps. i've no idea how much their worth by the way (the chargers, i know only too well the value of crisps).

I bought a 'battery maintainer' for 45quid from the local OPC as i keep getting flat battery due to lack of use , does anyone know the difference between that and the 95 EUR one?

If you are not going to use the car during the winter a trickle charger is an absolute must!

The battery on my 3.2 went dead in two and a half weeks whilst on holiday, and is a right pain in the ass!

I have two. One that works through the lighter socket for the Porsche and one that clips to a special kit in the TVR.

Both cars can stand a few days in the garage without trouble. It's when it extends to two or three weeks in the winter that it matters.

Ctek 3600 is the one - charges from flat as well. Neat, weatherproof and flexible - I use one on 3 cars - best £50 ever spent on a car as I no longer suffer the flat battery hoon busting blues....

I just use the Porsche one - £50ish (I think) - bought from the OPC. Keeps my 993C4S battery just fine...Plugs into the cigarette lighter - wire goes out under passenger door - just remember to unplug it when you drive away. I didn't and that's why I'm on my second one...;-)

That's the one. Demon tweeks have them for about £50. Not sure why PH munged the URL above?

another vote for the ctek, the drain on your battery will be much higher if you have a tracker fitted, agree with all the 'winter' comments above.

I have a tracker fitted, but as there was no insurance discounts, it's not active as far as tracker are concerned. Presumably it is still drawing current? If so, any idea where they are commonly fitted? Presumably not easily accesible.
