just reading the wikipedia entry for the Cerb...and read about an (I quote)

'Later models of the 4.5 liter engine could increase their output to 440 horsepower (97.7 hp/liter) provided that the driver filled the tank with high-octane, "premium" unleaded and pressed an inconspicuous and unlabelled button on the center column.'

...does this button actually work though? I assume it increases the compression ratios or something?

How can you increase the compression ration? It's a mechanical compression of a given amount of air/fuel mix is a non adjustable space.

What actually is supposed to happen is the switch remaps the ECU for 97RON as opposed to 95RON.

I believe the only difference is that 4 degrees of advance is taken out when running on 95RON.
