I need insurance for my S3

I want it to cover trackdays if possible and current quotes are upwards of £1200. I'm 24, full NCB, no points BTW.

Any pointers - none of the insurers that advertise in sprint will touch me. HELP! I want to book the trackday.

Shnozz,

I'm afraid to say £1200 is not a bad quote considering, at 23/34 I was just less than that for a Toyota Celica, admittadly it wasn't garaged but even so.

Even now at the grand age of 28, with three points under my belt; I'm paying £950 for my garaged S3.

Why can't there a be a Pistonheads insurance scheme, where only non-numpties with a passion for their cars can apply..

BTW Cover from Peart is for offical TVRCC track days only, which I've found a pain Not sure if the other TVR specialists are the same.

Shnozz, I run mine as a second car... makes it a lot cheaper... but not as much fun..

As a second car, on a classic policy with Mannings... £320. 5000 miles a year, age 25, full NCB, no claims, accidents or convictions...

Try classicline.
my 400SE was costing me £1500 when I first bought it (24 2 yrs ncd) now it costs me £350 (30, full ncd, just got rid of 11 points including my retired dad on the policy, and 1 accident, non fault, but hit and run, 3rd party never identified (well, their reg is X738 XNG but the police were'nt interested)

I had mine on a "future classic policy" mainloy because mine was a 1992 J reg 400SE, it has only just turned 10 years old. ( I do limit the mileage to 3000 per year ( but wedge speedo cables keep snapping ))

nope - tried classicline, tried Mannings, Sunningdale etc etc and no joy. Won't cover me until 25th birthday so renewal for next year will have to be with current insurers (priveledge)

no track day cover cant take the risk in putting mine on the track without cover so looks like i will be a spectator only in Leicester.

Makes a lot of sense. I want to learn the cars capabilities and handling limits on a track, where its safe to do so. Insurers wont cover it. Dont want to learn these on a road where the risks are greater and I have to respect other road users - and they cover that. FFS.

shnozz,

trackday cover can be bought for the trackday.. BaT have a scheme depending on how much insurance you want.. from memory £2000's worth is £40 and £5000's worth is £80 so you can just buy at the time.. plus this means you don't pay for insurance you don't use.. and if you wrap your car up, you havent lost your no-claims bonus.. plus you don't have to insure the full value of the car.. I carried £5k's worth at Anglessey on the assumption that even a fairly major "off" wasn't going to do much more than 5k of damage..

just a thought.. (as I dont have trackday cover either..)

Matt.

from Bookatrack website:

Insurance Basics

Insurance not compulsary

We do not require that our customers are insured - indeed some track-only cars often are not (though track-only insurance is available). However, for those looking for total peace of mind you would do wise to look into track insurance to cover any mishaps on track.

Making use of an existing policy

Many insurance policies do not cover you to run a car on track, although unlike the road it is not illegal to run a car with void or no insurance. However, most companies are happy to extend your policy to either complete trackday cover or (more likely) individual days for a small fee. Some are better than others, so please check our insurance pages for our recommended insurers.
Track Insurance Only

Competition Car Insurance offer track day only insurance starting at around £50 per event. The table below shows the options available when booking the event for a single driver. To extend the insurance cover for additional drivers please add 30% to the prices shown.
