Does anybody know anything about the guards red 964 for sale on the eporsch website, or indeed the baltic blue 3.3 on the gmund pages?

Looking to buy a late 930 or early 964 to use as an occasional daily driver....haven't driven a turbo of any generation (yet!), so are there any pointers to their driving style, handling, servicing costs, etc?

Any advice would be a great help!

I recently went from a Carrera 3.2 (same generation as a 930) to 965 3.3.

What do you drive at moment? What driving style are you after?

The 911/930 is harder work, rock hard suspension, no power steering- ultimately not as fast in absolute terms but they feel very fast- pure driving experience. I love 'em.

The 965/ 964 is a bit more comfortable. Turbo suspension still hard but a little more insulated. And assisted steering, softer clutch etc. but not as 'soft' as a 993 or later. Lower end grunt not quite as sharp, but mid range boost is phenomenal and smooth all the way. Maybe TOO fast for modern england (with speed cameras sprouting up daily).

Summary: both Turbos are amazing. Get either, just make sure you find a good well cared for example.

Recently got out of a 964 RS and already previously had a 964 C4. My daily driver is a turbo diesel!

Not driven a blown version of any generation yet, so very interested to see how they perform. I'd imagine the 965 set-up wise would be somewhere of a half way house between the RS & C4, but the power delivery would be on a different level, especially 'in gear'? Does it feel like a special car??

The 930 appeals because of possibly the rawer 'RS' type set-up and the more classic 'Turbo' look (used to have the poster on my bedroom wall when I was a teenager!! sad I know). Is it much more of a compromise to the 965?

I've recently made the move from a 3.2 to a 930 Turbo.

The definition of "raw" is always relative. I think you would find it to be quite refined after a 964 RS.

Although the 930 and the 965 run engines of a similar capacity, they are very different cars and you would really need to drive both to decide which you prefer.

At low speed, the 930 is a heavy car to drive, but once you are at what I would describe as normal operating speed , it lightens considerably. With a one bar boost spring reducing lag (and pushing power up to around 330 bhp), it is also easier to keep the boooost close at hand.

With regard to performance a friend posted me an "Autocar and Motor" road test of the '89 930 with 5 speed gearbox (which mine has and I would definitely recommend).

0-60 in 4.9, 0-100 in 12, 50-70 in 2.4 in second, 90-110 in 5.0 in third so I think you'd find the performance adequate, even by today's standards..

Plus, those looks..

I swopped my 964 C4 for a 3.3 965 a few months ago. Both are fast cars with the C4 feeling a lot quicker off the mark and the Turbo having its millenium falcon act once the boost kicks in, hard to know when you will every need all that accleration and difficult getting used to the lag tho. The turbo is much more refined and comfortable in normal use, with the C4 feeling like a go cart by comparison, but for me at least the C4 was a more fun drive. Have enjoyed them both but on balance and for the money I'd go for the C4. Never driven the 930, but love the way it looks.

So how do you reckon on a 964 C4 with RSish spec suspension set-up, chip, de-cat & cup by pass, as an every day proposition?

Still like those those turbo looks though....can the lag be eradicated in any way?

Awesome thread. That blue one at Gmund is gorgeous, I have my beady eye on it actually... Unfortunately with the purchase of a new house, that 23k is going to have to go into washing machines and toasters!

I have a 944 T cab with simply sickly acceleration in the mid ranges, I can only imagine a 964 T would be gut wrenching.

I want.

I see another 965 has come for sale at 911box, in addition to the one at Eporsch. Does anyone know of any others for sale at the moment? I think the 3.6 is a bit out of the budget!

Scotty, I have been considering a similar move (I currently have a 964 C2). Personally I will go for a 964 Turbo (no such thing as a 965 ) over a 930 for the simple reason I want the PAS, ABS, better brakes and all the other good things needed to stay alive. A Turbo 2 would be my preference, however as someone said is the extra power actually usable in modern england.

If its just the looks you want, then try and find a 964 C4 Wide body - throw some cash at it and you will have a very nice car, both from a performance and handling perspective - but a Turbo it will not be.

Good luck in your quest. Also have a look on Northways site, Ray had a couple of very pretty Turbo's just before Xmas.

Yeah, I saw those at the time, but wasn't in the market for one until now! Gmund had a nice horizon blue 964T2, but it seems to have disappeared, also the one on the Paul Devyea site? I'll keep looking....does anyone have any comments on the best colour combos??

Re colour combo on a 930, it's very subjective but I've always preferred them in black, Guards red and GP white, with a black interior.

Black just looks plain menacing, whereas the red and white set off the detailing like the shark fins really nicely.

However, as has been said many times before on this forum, you must buy on condition which means you may need to compromise on colour.

All IMO of course..
