not really the normal way to go i know, but someone has emailed me offering a px and cash my way for mine with his 94my chim. Only reason for doing so is to still have a tvr, and get some spare cash free'd up for my impending house move!

I went the other way, as I suspect most have.
I had a 98my 4.0L non PAS Chimaera and loved it to bits. However, after 18 months of Cerb ownership I had the use of a mate 5.0L Chim with PAS and it felt like Tractor Technology! Funny, because I don't remember my chim being that unrefined.
It will feel like jumping out of a pocket rocket into a shopping trolley, but they are beautiful cars, I have thought about one for a daily driver.

Another here who went the other way, 450 Chim to 4.2 Cerb. Chims are nice but the engine, as you will already know, is a low down torquey old beast and doesn't revel in the high revving antics department. Whole driving experience is far less Banzai than the Cerb if that makes sense and I suspect it may feel rather slow in comparison, esp a 4L. Given that you were looking at getting a BEC at one point and also that you have had prior Japanese rocket stuff, I would be worried that it might not suit you. Have a drive in one to see, oh and the chassis is not as resolved, at least mine wasn't, hopped about and skittered on bumpy backroads like a bar steward, this can be sorted with decent shocks but if you have to start adding money back in you might wonder if it was worth changing in the first place.

yeah i totally aggree mate, infact what you said has mimiked what i said to a mate earlier! I am still thinking of getting a bec, but this offer just came up.
Greenie - would be good to meet up to have a chat/test ride in each others beuts! Especially as your only down the road!lol!

I went from Chim to Cerb, and still prefer the soundtrack of the Chim, they sound gorgeous. Chim is much more of a torquey cruiser, with the hood off on a summers day, with that lovely V8 burble, you cant beat it! And it still good for the occasional, OK then, frequent, full throttle point and squirt bit !!
Chim is cheaper to run, you'll be buying it at the right time to enjoy it - Summer just starting - but if you decide to sell at the end of the summer, it'll be the wrong time to sell .

Morning Toad old bean. I've done exactly this exercise as I'm sure you remember - 1998 4.0 non PAS Chim to 1996 4.2 Cerb (then M5 
) and now back to a 1999 4.5 PAS Chim. I was dreadfully worried I'd miss the power of the Cerb and M5 when going back to the Chim, I was looking at a late Cerb or Tuscan, but Wifely basically controlled my wallet (school fees/moving house/rainy day etc etc) so I had to curtail my budget.
Okay so I'll be the first to say it's not as banzai quick as the Cerb, but lets face it, no recent TVR can exactly be described as slow. Having found a good one in excellent condition and with a very smooth 450 engine, I'm more than satisfied. So maybe I only over take three cars at once instead of five on our local country lanes, but for the most part I can't fault it. No it doesn't feel as "modern" as the Cerb, and it's also much quieter (even with a straight though exhaust mod 104dB as opposed to the 108 of my old Cerb) but as you say, it's still a TVR, and a very nice one at that.
Would I have made the change if it wasn't for circumstances (small daughter monster thingy) possibly not, do I feel short-changed? Certainly not!
Only one caveat though - the 1998+ Chims are quite different to the earlier ones, so personally, I'd go hunting for a younger car....

redL- I wasnt really thinking of going in that way really, its just what some guy has offered me. If i was just looking to go for a chim then it would be a later model one. Not sure i fancy it tho, 73k miles which i know isnt a lot for the rv8 but compared to other chims out there resale value would not be great. Depends what its like in the flesh reallt i guess. If it werent for the mrs wanting to move to a bigger house then i wouldnt need the money for moving, so would be keeping it.

I cant speak 'for' you, but my approach has always been to 'find a way' rather that cashing in my chips and making a sacficice. Ive always found that in life, when Ive made up my mind to achieve X or Y, I ususally do find a way even when going against the odds.
I would decide to keep the cerb, and then do your level best to make that plan work out. Again, I cant speak for you, but I suspect you'd have more grins and damp gussets all round in the cerb, Good luck
