Ecu and software

Ive been reading back thru a few posts about connecting the car upto the laptop, ive noticed ppl saying theres two diffrent types of ecu, has anybody got pics of the differences? My car is a 96 4.2, daft question.....wheres the ecu situated? iam guessing the passenger footwell!!
What does the software actually do?? can you adjust anything or it is just for diagnistic purposes.....or is it best left to people that know what there doing?

doesnt matter what ecu you have got,ring dave at www.automedon.co.uk he can tell you how to link the ecu to your lap top

Its basically a moving graph of most of the input sensors to the engine, lambda, temperature injector times etc etc.
Also a rudimentary screen showing logged error faults in the engine.
Pretty damned essential for engine diagnosis, or just to compare pre and post service graphs to see whether you've ballsed up the setup or not.

For people who dont follow the forums that closley nemasis is an ex factory worker who was on the cerb production line, he also works at automedon in Blackpool, it does beg the question Will automedon answer questions over the phone to people who will never take their cars there because they are at the other end of the country! Presumably they will or nemasis wouldnt be plugging away so avidly! BTW Nemasis did you have any luck finding those schematics?

Anyway, my Cerbie S6 '99 has got the old blue metal ecu box, and my (Dutch, there you go) dealer hasn't got the software to read it. Can anyone help me with a copy, please?
