40p/mile

just a question for my interest only;

the 40p/mile that you can claim, presumably that amount goes up every now and then with inflation etc. When was the last time it went up, and with fuel prices on the rise, is it due for another hike?

Quite a while ago.

It's not just based on fuel. It's supposed to cover the WHOLE cost of motoring. Some government officials might argue that there is no need to put it up as other costs of motoring (e.g. the capital costs of buying accar, borrowing costs for finance etc) have actually gone down.
