In an extremely tenuous attempt to stretch the boundries of unoriginality, I was contemplating which cars, over the next few years, might feasibly form the basis of a Piston Header's dream collection, by virtue of their criminal depreciation and thus entry into the zone of potential consideration wherein both matrimonial goodwill (where appropriate) and financial rectitude could be streteched to their absolute limits...

Any thoughts?

With Depreciation being the key I'd be closely looking at the following when 4 or 5 years old.

Mercedes E55
Bentley Arnage Green Label.
Ferrari 456
Lambo Diablo
996tt (building too many of em not to depreciate)
Range Rover (predecessor to the new one)

Last year the S2K was hovering around £20K, now I've seen them for just over £10k.

I'll be getting one in the next couple of years at that rate!

In three years they'll be worth less than Twink.

There must be somthing wrong with that.

OK, gentlemen, we need to cover a few bases here:

1) Super Saloon: E55 AMG (auto) or M5 (manual) - do you like to stir your gearbox, or let the slush do its thang?

2) Convertible: TVR Tamora or Chimera/Griffith (budget/skinflint mode depending)

3) Coupe: M3 or TVR Cerbera

4) Supermini: Seat Leon Cupra R (assuming Cooper S's are still going for silly money)

5) 4x4: Range Rover, new shape. With big petrol engine, not some rattley gutless diesel.

6) Classic/exotic: Ferrari 328 or Countach, depends on whether you believe in eternal life or not.

So there we have it. 6 motors, all weather and configurations catered for. A nod to quintessential Englishness, Teutonic uberness, and top down sunny weather grin inducing FUN!!!

F355 Spider - what could possibly be more orgasmic?
M5 (I'm a stirrer, Greg!)
Red Label - (ok, give it 2 or 4 years...)
Cerbera 4.5 - because there is NO substitute!
Ultima GTR - because all men play on 10 (& use Brut...)
Elise 111S - er, because it makes you smile
Radical SR3 - because I have to justify Mrs.DeR's 4x4
Diablo - now come on! Pay attention 007...

Over the next few years all of these cars will be available for between low teens and possibly sub-£50k and I can think of little else that is so well honed for each job; whether it's dominating Croft; obliterating small animals on ze 'Ring; frightening large animals in the countryside or just frightening whole countries per se.

And the worrying thing is, that in some small corner of my tiny, tiny mind, I'm starting to think it's ultimately achievable on a simultaneous basis. Where the hell are my tablets?

P.P.S. Can I add the Noble M12GTO? It's quite fantastic. What do you reckon they'll be in a few years? Sub £20k?

The supercharged 6 cylinder are lower now that the Vantage is out. The will keep dropping when the V8 Vantage arrives.

Also the E36 M3 (lots around, all knackered)
and the "new" M5

Leon Cupra R? Supermini? Do you KNOW how big those tanks are?

Nearly 4.5m long with nearly 1m of overhang front and rear EACH! They aren't exactly narrow either!
