I had a wonderful piece of propoganda land on my doorstep today from the local constabulary. When I first opened it I was greeted with news of a fall in crime of 2%, a increase in detections by 15.5% and so forth. However when I opened the leaflet further I discovered a photo of this happy chappy! Now I know how they've managed to increase detections so much!

Why don't you tell themn what you think if there's a contact address. Lets face it, you can't sleep at night in case you get burgled but it's nice to know people on the roads are crawling along at 25% below the speed limits most of the time. Swell job, they're doing and coining it in as well.

Why would he get run over?

Sadly, officers have been injured carrying out speed checks. Most 'accidental' but at least one (I think) wasn't.

I suppose it's always easy to increase your 'detection rate' if you have a safety camera partnership

And the great thing is that your clear-up rate improves along with it!

Surely if they are allowed to include automatic speeding convictions in their clear-up numbers then they must also include estimates of the number of drivers who exceed the limit but are undetected in the crimes rates.

But - perhaps not because their figures would be swamped!

To be fair, speeding offences do not count in the Home Office Stats for detected crime. They are "Non-Crime" matters, i.e. non-recordable (don't get a criminal record for speeding) offences. After all, I've had 2 FPNs and I'm in teh Police. Not the SCP - they are NOT the Police.

Doesn't it worry magistrates and serving officers to be associated by partnership?

You should be ashamed of yourself, showing such blatant disregard for the law you are supposed to uphold

The bib in the pic bears a striking resemblence to Peter Cushing holding out a crucifix to ward off Dracula!

Do you think this was an intentional propaganda tactic...................?

It is a sad state of affairs when manning a speed gun is thought of by those who are in theory out to protect us as "fighting crime" is it not?

Locke had it right, the police have the power we allow them to have in exchange for not taking the law into our own hands. Therefore, it follows that really we ought to take back the right to defend our own property given that they don't want to...............

XXPLOD, Ah, but with six points on your license are you not banned from driving a police car...........

You think that's bad - even Lego have got in on the act:

"Stop trouble before it starts!

The police car is on patrol, keeping the city streets safe! The police officer has his radar gun to watch for speeders. When he spots one, he takes off in his super-fast police car and tracks the driver down!"

(I am not making this up. It's at http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=72 )
