Had an intriguing letter through the post this morning from the Worshipful Master of a certain Lodge of the Freemasons.

Bottom line is that the letter is pretty much a blind mailshot asking me if I'm interested in becoming a Mason.

Now my only experience of Freemasonry is the comical portrayal of masons with their trousers rolled up doing the shaky-shaky hand thing (easy!) while chanting odd mantras.

They must be getting pretty desperate for members if they have to start doing mailshots like this.

Or is there a secret lodge of the Worshipful Pistonheaders that I don't know about!

Isn't being a PHer like being a mason, but without the religious connotations?

What do you mean WITHOUT the religious connotations?

"In the beginning there was Peter Wheeler, Colin Chapman and Enzo Ferrari...."

Im off to sacrifice a chicken on a V8 engine before this heathen upsets the gods of burnt rubber...

yeah - but it's not happening fast enough... we need to force the issue... if we can reduce nupties by 50% over the next 10 years, our transportation problems are solved...

...hay, you could even render them down afterwards, and use them to re-tar the roads.

Oi you lot, always pirating my posts!

My last one about ranting turned into a Gerbil sex-fest that was closed by Ted. Now my post about Masons is overcome by the anti-numpty movement!

This failure to keep your minds on the topic at hand has got to stop!

Angus - having worked in the building trade for 20 years plus I have brushed shoulders with the Brethern many times. Obviously as a girlie I was not eligible to become a member - actually nor would I want to. I would also not want a relationship with a bloke who was on the square either. They are currently desperately short of members - especially if they are resorting to mail shots - it is a dying club. It is also very expensive - lots of overpriced lunches.

OK so they do raise some money for charity - but a lot of this is internal stuff. If you want to network join the Chamber of Commerce - if you want to raise money for charity then join the Rotary club. There are plenty of books out there which expain the rituals.

Surely you wouldn't want to join a club that would have you as a member

I always post on PH with a choice bowl of fresh fruit salad in a bowl perched precariously sur ma tete.

The rolled trouser is entirely optional but I can recommend it highly, especially if faced with a mild south easterly breeze when pedalling into the sun.

Pass the seraph, G'vnor.

There are, I believe Woman's Lodges.

I wouldn't mind joining Nick Mason but I don't think its the same thing.
