Sounds like a lot of work for not much change to the car. If you're serious, the best route is almost certainly to go straight to a coil-over shock suspension setup. Vetteheadracer has these on his car with GM T1 swaybars and I think the cost of the bits was around $3,000. He's the guy to talk to on this one.
