Ok I have a lot of old invoices (25000 ish shame to waste em ) A4 with a carbon copie, What I need to know if you can get a printer like a golfball type which will put a little pressure through to the carbon, I need this then to connect to a pc as I can use as a word prossessor, I can create a layout in microsort office ...........

Any other Ideas would be greatly appreciated .

Wouldn't a dot matrix printer work just as well as a golfball one?Have a look at OKIs and Epson printers.

Epson

You could prbably get these for next to nothing on Flea Bay.

Old-fashioned daisy-wheel printer would definitely exert enough pressure, but they weigh a tonne, are very old, unlikely you'll get a driver for it and the output looks like it's been hand-typed (which in their day was a plus point but now a minus point).

A dot matrix may exert enough pressure, but I wouldn't like to bet any money on it.

Modern ink-jet printers spray it on, but the FX80 is a much older technology - dot matrix - where little pins punch through an inked ribbon and basically tattoo the paper with little dots (hence "dot matrix" ). The quality of the print is defined by the number of pins, hence "8-pin printer", "24-pin printer", etc.

So now that I think of it, they probably would exert enough pressure.

Edit2: Blimey. Looks like you can still get ink ribbons and drivers for the FX-80. Top stuff from Epson.

A dot matrix will do the job. They are still in common use for invoice/ despatch note printing using carbon copy paper. You will need however to use the printers fonts rather than True type fonts to get a decent output.

You can still spend a lot of money on these things today to do a proper job. Almost any dot matrix will work but proper forms printers will do up to 4 or 5 copies thick. They also have custom paper length settings etc so that you can form feed and tear off without wasting sheets etc.

9pin dot matrix heads tend to be more robust (last longer and cheaper to replace) but 18 or 24 pin with give better quality output.

Don't bother with truetype fonts if you want it printed sometime today . design the format for 10 Chars per inch and 6 lines per inch and you won't go far wrong.

I'll second the OKI option, I've seen one print onto a sheet of metal and leave imprints!
