got a freind buying a 360 spider.
2002 manual, 15k miles.

what are the main things he needs to be aware of ?

i mean things like some adverts say 'recent cam belts' - what's the belt's service interval/mileage and how much does it cost? - any other things to watch for like when are major services due etc ???

many thanks in advance - is there a buyers guide anywhere ?

Depends on when the belts where last done, the norm would be to have it serviced at time of belt change. next major service should be about 18000. you also need to be asking if the clutch has been changed? the dealer can tell you what wear is on it.

It's a 3 year cam-belt change cycle, so presume belts changed at some point 2005

Depending on where you get the belts done (it's out of warranty now, so presume independent is the way forward ) Check Verdi's

www.verdiferrari.biz/servicing.htm

Resale Red is the way forward, Silver is out - so much so main dealers advertise wanted ads - but specifically not silvers

The car will already be on it's second clutch

Get them to give you the computer print out showing current clutch wear

Also make sure the clutch software was upgraded when the clutch was changed

Actually with a car of that age, I would make sure it has full Ferrari service history, and within at least 2 months either side of the recommended intervals. Otherwise, Ferrari might take issue and not give a POWER warranty. Have a read of the POWER warranty on the ferrari website.

For that reason I don't agree with the post recommending independents for the servicing, as the car will not, as I understand it, be eligible for the warranty renewal. Cars older than8 years, fine go independent, but less than that I'd try to keep it under warranty for as long as possible.

That said, the 360 is generally pretty well made, I never had a problem in many thousands of revs and miles. But if you are buying any car such as this it might be an idea to get it inspected, especially if its not from one of the main dealers. One of the Ferrari dealers will do it for you, or someone like Karl Verdi, and it won't cost more than a few hundred quid.

BTW avoid the modular wheels as they are not repairable.
