I asked this Q a short while ago and got a lean response, but one of which was to try www.fancyplates.com. Well, they do translucent rear plates for TVR's and will do fancy fonts and borders etc. I ordered a set with said border and a nice little TVR logo at the bottom. They do look nice. Problem is that the rear is NOT reflective! When I enquired they said it couldn't be reflective AND translucent! I'm sure it has to be reflective by law, and I suspect my current plate (although a bit worse for wear now) is both. Any help anyone?

A little shop down the road from my work that just does number plates and window tinting did mine for me for £8.00 they didn't even bat an eyelid when I said it was backlit just an "oh you need this stuff" translucent and reflective.

Thanks 4 quick replies. Wanted to order via web or mail-order and this company appeared just right! Having seen the "customised" images when building up the plate a standard one doesn't do it for me. The front is OK (but a bit smaller - don't tell madcop!) but will I need a reflective rear one for MOT?

Just so you all know I called in a saw the guy down the road from me today and got quoted £10.50 (£8.00 a year ago, but that was in the shop for cash) anyway he says he will do web or mail order without seeing a V5 and license simply because DVLA have been unable to give them any guide lines on these types of sales. I don't think they show TVR specific translucent rears on the web site, but he does know exactly what's wanted and what he's talking about for a TVR, they even come with a bag of screws and caps plus double sided sticky pads.

For your info, I picked up my Cerb from a dealer with 12 months MOT with a rear plate that was not translucent.
However, you can see that the number plate lights work. Thinking back to when I knew things, is the requirement to have 'operational' number plate lights rather than things that show the number plate info?

well i can agree with mel, ordered a new set of plates to put my personal number on and had them within a couple of days, with all the extra fixings and total cost (front and rear) £23.50 inc p+p. considering a main dealer wanted £30 for just the rear
