Drive Carefully............This is not pointing the finger at anyone on this site so please do not take offence. Out on test drive this week with a couple in a 911 (997). On demo in the car I was subject to speeds well in excess of 100mph, driving on the wrong side of the road trying to over take on blind corners, I asked them to slow down but clearly they had no intention of doing so. Really I just want to remind people that we all know these cars are very quick but please do not put peoples life's at risk. It was this time last year that a young very professional TVR sale's man was tragically killed on test drive.

Speed by itself doesn't kill.
Maybe drive carefully would be a better title than SLOW down?
Edited to add these were clearly poor uneducated drivers, with probably no intention of buying the car. I wouldn't have thought that 'type of person' would be on here.
Last type I want to see driving a Porker.

that sounds awful. i fail to see why you should/would tloerate that sort of behaviour. Thinking of your own life in the balance, why cant you state clearly that if the driver does not pull over and hand the keys to you, you will phone the police and report him/her for speeding/dangerous driving. if they still dont stop, get out your mobile and dial 999. that i bet would give food for thought

I wholeheartedly agree. Even when you have a fast car, you must always take account of other road users (and passengers!) and certainly not indulge in mindless manoevres like the example you gave.
As a salesperson on test drives I presume you have special (danger money!) insurance?

First set of traffic lights you came to you should have pulled the handbrake on and kicked the idiots out of the car and down the street.
I'm a very nervous passenger unless I know the person driving me can 'drive'. Not sure I could take numpties out in high perf cars.
As an ex salesperson I have only ever had to terminate 2 test drives, one was comical but a story for another time!
Don't know if your boss ever told you but you do have a legal right to terminate the drive, you won't lose the sale if they drive like loonies chances are they just wanted a drive with no intention of buying a car at all anyway.
Also don't forget if you are on trade plates and get stopped then not only does the driver get points, but the person in charge of the vehicle I.E. the salesman.

Don't know how you guys get life insurance, seriously if a stranger drove the car like that with me in it. i would have screamed in his ear until he stopped.
I still recovering from a nasty roll (not on the public highway) and i can tell you exactly how much it hurts when you hit something....

Despite the fact that I can drive quickly I never do so on a test drive because I have empathy with the poor salesman. If I do choose to slide the tail out or anything that might be out of the ordinary I tell him I'm about to do so and if there's any sign of him being uncomfortable then I would stop. It's irresponsible and rude to risk someone else's life without their permission, but it's a sad indictment on our society if this is becoming commonplace.

Yes. It seems as if the driving was a problem not really the speed as such. For example, going slowly (overtaking) around a blind bend may be worse as you're there for longer! Just don't overtake on blind bends.

This happened just outside Melton Mowbray, it was in the local paper at the time of the accident, and again last week. The driver of the car has been charged with dangerous driving or somesuch petty misdemeanour. He'll probably get 18 months and a short ban. The road itself (about 8 miles from where I live) is notorious for having many blind spots, and lots of lorries. I'm pretty sure the whole scene involed the TVR overtaking a lorry and then smashing into another lorry coming in the opposite direction.
The poor bloke was just trying to make a living, I felt truly sorry for him and his family.

Blimey! Can I echo everyone's sentiments, here.
UNACCEPTABLE.
I have exceeded the speed limit during a test drive - at the Sales guy's suggestion. I have also exceeded the speed limit on the motorway after asking if I could check out how a car cruised at 90mph as it was something it would be doing everyday.
Driving like a loon and overtaking into blind bends is unacceptable under any conditions - but on a test drive? Outrageous!
You must have details as to who these people are. I would write to all your fellow dealers and warn them.
Some people should take the bus. The driver you had the misfortune to ride with sounds like one of them.

Good idea. The only thing you can do, really.
Talking of test drives, I took one in an Audi 1005GLS back in about 76. Salesman with me said "Your gear changing is quite good", I asked what he meant, not quite understanding what he meant, he said "Some people labour in the gears, and we ask them if they wouldnt mind changing gear".
I said "Well do you know something, I have never actually taken a test in a car", to which he said, and I kid you not.
"Are you shitting me sir"
I said "No, you didnt ask me for my licence did you", (they rarely do, do they)
Seing that he was starting to panic a little I came clean with him.
"Its OK, I took my test in a 3 ton lorry", which of course gave me a license for a car for nothing. Not sure what the rules are now, but in 1970 you could get a car provisional, immediately apply for an HGV provisional, and be let loose (under instruction of course) in any class of HGV going. So in theory you could jump in your HGV1 and go straight on the motorway then, as HGV Learners were not exempt from motorways. At this time by the way, I had been a motorcyclist for about 6 years.
