Apart from having to drop my S3 to an inspection centre and putting the keys through the door as requested, a phonecall or ten later that afternoon, transpires that no-one came in to open the centre for checking my car over.No-one knew what time it closed,so I had to rush home to get the car without the keys(still in the building).Spare set did work. Can we take it on Monday was the next ask.Yes,have another go.Can we have the keys? No,you've got some.
Car taken today and inspected.Passed all, except a rusty jubilee clip on the lower rad hose. What did they do? Drain all the rad of anti freeze, and fit a new clip.Said it still leaked and filled the system with just water.Pi$$ed off isnt the words.I have found the hose clip they fitted was three turns from tight and still dripping and had to spend an hour bleeding out the air from the rad.Should they work on what is still considered my car before the purchaser buys it on Sat? I feel that they have potentially done more harm than good.No anti-freeze/coolant.I think they should have replaced it.Guess over the next few nights I'm going to be bleeding the system as it wouldnt have got past Newbury on Sat,let alone Manchester,Just be warned everyone.

Hi Justin,

Shame that your buyer decided to get the AA to check over the S, especially considering that there're a number of TVR specialists/dealers in the area. Strikes me that an AA inspection is fine if you're buying a Fiesta, but not much cop for anything more exotic.

You should definitely make a fuss about the anti-freeze. They have no right to do any work on your car when they're only supposed to be doing an inspection, especially without your say so. You should take it back there and demand that they top up the anti-freeze and bleed the system!

Richard

P.S. Don't let the loss of the S stop you from posting on here. As they say, don't be a stranger!

This seems quite wrong and I would complain to the AA like mad. When I bought my S2 last year I had an AA check done for my peace of mind. This is my first TVR. Although the check seemed thorough, the inspector competent and the car was declared sound I thought the AA's pricing and organisation of the inspection very poor. The price was high, £200 plus for perhaps an hours work and I was left to organise a venue and inform the AA where that was and the time booked. So the organisation was at my expense in my time. Not a good deal. "My" inspector simply pointed out what needed rectification, eg: worn rear tyres and a cracked indicator lens. For me the best bit was seeing for myself under the car and hearing him declare the chassis and outriggers solid and in good condition. Your AA bloke was surely going too far and what a run around you were given.

the new owner,David, was advised there was 'no antifreeze in the car' makes me look a prat.I advised him that there had always been antifreeze in the car and said I can even show a half used bottle in the garage.I know David admits to me about a lack of mechanical knowledge, but that is something you gain from experience.I know that he is trying the best he can to protect his purchase, but it's taught me a lesson and am glad that I couldn't organise the AA to inspect the car before my purchase and will never do it on any future purchases. As my mate,a local mechanic says.'look at the sign outside the building,it says it all' the sign says 'Workshop and yard for sale'
Right,I'm out to tinker to get rid of some more air out the rad.

Justin

Life been hectic since picking up the car - hence it's taken me so long to get onto the website.

Drive home was superb - car ran like a dream, no problems whatsoever with the cooling system, too early to judge petrol consumption, but i didn't really buy it for that anyway !

Haven't had chance to do much with the car yet. Started with the basics - checked water level and oil - i'll be an F1 mechanic in no time !

Next job is a little more adventurous - drivers door - think the bush (?) needs replacing, but obviously not sure yet - will need to look in the bible tonight. Whatever, am waiting for slightly more 'mechanic freindly' weather before attempting that one - we've got snow at the moment.

Like one of the guys below says - would be a shame if you stopped inputting into the chat room - strikes me you have a wealth of knowledge on these cars.

Wish you all the best with fatherhood and hope to hear from you soon.

David
