997 GT3RS wider body? 3.8 liter?

RS = Light weight

Wider body and 3.8 liter = More weight

The GT3 have standard body and 3.6 liter engine already weight 1395kg.
So I am wondering why the GT3RS will have a wider body and 3.8 liter engine?

And do you think the RS will be a limited edition again?

I didn't realise the RS was a widebody. Just had a look at some pics and it doesn't look like it to me, could be wrong though. Either way depending on which stats you look at it is about 100Kgs lighter than a standard GT3.

Given the success of the RS, my guess is they will do a 997 GT3 RS.

C4 bodyshell, and engine and box being more "robust" are heavier than the standard C2 items.

I dont think that it will come in a 3,8l engine. I think that porsche will put the same 3,6 engine as the 997gt3, but it will be the very high output engines, i.e 425bhp ones, that go to the RS, ala 996..

The 996 GT RS is narrow body. The chap was referring to the possibility of the forthcoming 997 GT3 RS being wide body. Lots of people think it will be. It should be lighter.

The reasoning behind widebody is apparently to run wider track/fatter tyres on the race car which apparently was a limiting factor for Porsches racing ambitions with the 996. This solves that problem, although I'm not sure it will really benefit the road going version?

964RS 3.8 fat arse wide body was (book figs) lighter than regular 964RS 3.6, (aluminium doors a big factor) so fat arse doesnt always mean more lard.

You guys want a 3.6 or 3.8? I love the wide body and 3.8 litre engine. I have driven a 997C4S and that's wonderful!

I agree with Adam the car will come with th 3.6 GT1 based engine and this will be the better choice.

The 3.8 is the standard M96 engine, and thus comes with all the related problems.

A Wide bodied 3.8 GT1 base car would make everybody think --- even though the narrow body is possibly easier for threading along country roads.

But I have heard both rumours around.

There is no reason why the GT3/GT1 engine can't be stretched to 4 litres.

If the 3.6 unit in the 997 GT3 now produces 415 BHP, by my calculations a 4 litre (on a proportional basis) would produce 461 BHP.

461 BHP is what Porsche need to be producing in the GT3 to give it similar power to the Ferrari 430. Ferrari have the benefit of 2 extra cylinders of course, so making extra power is easier for them as they don't have to stop at 4 litres.

But a 4 litre GT3 RS with 461 BHP weighing only 1250 kg would be quite a car. And there is absolutely no reason why they can't do this.
