996/boxster gearbox problems

Hello there if anybody is suffering a 2nd gear changing problem or a bearing noise on a 996 / Boxster S 6 speed gearbox then please post here as i will be able to repair this for you as i have now found the contacts to get any part of 2nd gear remanufactured to the manufactures specification.Also all bearings can be obtained to fix the whinning that is not so uncommon in a 996 c4 gearbox..

Sports , Can you describe what I'd expect to hear if my jalopy had gearbox bearing noise? ... And does it have gearbox implications?

You can hear a noise mainly gets noticable in higher gears 4th is a good one if you cannot hear any noise then you will probably be fine..obviously the more debri in the box the more things fail...eventually the bearing will collapse or destroy the shaft/casing.

Sounds like a faint wuuring noise to start with then after a period of time gets louder and louder.

I have put the problem down to the bearing behind the pinion head gear..it picks up and all the roller balls chip, this failure is caused by the planet gears breaking up in the differential...will try and put some pictures on my website of this tomorrow...the case hardening comes away from the gearing and the bearing ingests the debri..and hey presto premature failure....this is only my own theory on it but most people tend to agree with me.

I can get brand new planet gearing and new bearings for that gearbox to repair it.

That and 2nd gear crunching and rejection of 2nd is the only 2 problems i have come across ive heard of 3rd and 4th not selecting too as the selector forks wear out...
