Thank you both for your reply!! I was looking at doing what seems to be the usual mods, ACT intake, carbon trumpets, de catted, (its a 500) magnacor leads, MSD, then Mark Adams tornado chip. BUT having read on Phils Dax Cobra web site the benefits of a programmable ECU i was thinking of going down this route?? Would also benefit future mods!!! Has anyone had any experience of Megasquirt ECUs?? In programming, fitting or rolling road time?? Cheers
Hi all,
im a little biased towards the MS system, but an after market ECU has to be the way to go. You have a few options as far as MS goes, either lock your distributor up and use it to trigger the MS ECU and the ECU will then fire your coil, or the best method is to fit a Ford 36-1 wheel onto your crank pulley (£13) and fit a Ford sensor (£5 from a scrappy) and get 2 coil packs from 4 cylinder Fords (£10 from a scrappy or around £30 new) then you have wasted spark and dont have any play in the distributor to mess up the timing. The MS has a built in MAP sensor too, so no need for that restrictive airflow meter to be in line either,
